Golden Corral is now Lone Star, its the Western Steer that is soon to be bulldozed.

I thought Golden Corral was the one on the corner of 235 & 4 that closed last year b/c the owner got fed up with employees ditching work and all the other b/s of running a business. I heard Wawa wants to go in there but they can't get the permits w/o a traffic impact study.

anyways.........memory lane........mmmm.....
There used to be a Mexican Place, my dad
always took us there for lunch on weekends,
right next to the old Lexington Park moive
theater....that's where I saw E.T. like
in 82'......across from the Library before
the internet came along......you had to
do your term paper there. I remember fishing
off the pier in Town Creek, now ya gotta pay for
it, b*stards, and the Town Creek Inn, wasn't that
the bar there?.........I had soccer practice at that
vacant field in Town Creek.....I always liked that
area, but I bet it's crowded now......and I had a
bunch of friends in the Tall Timbers area......did
alot of fishing at the Marina there........

The whole block - Plaza Theater, Skipjack, other stores - is gone and a new post office is in its place. The library just moved to a new building across from LP Elementary.

Town Creek Marina. I spent MANY nights there in my wild days. It's still there, but it's now called Neptune's.

Golden Corral is now Lonestar, Kenney Shoes is a Foot Locker, Western Steer closed down last year. Behind Western Steer is a new shopping center, with Giant, Target, Lowe's, Staples, Pier One, and a bunch of other stores and restaurants.

Pennie's is still alive and kicking. I was there Wednesday night and it hasn't changed any.

:yeahthat: We don't have good kitschy stores around anymore. I can look around my house and see a lot of things that came from there.

Wow. Rosies. That brings back memories. First club I went to in my life. Someone called me about a car I was selling and asked me to meet them there. Went, waited for an hour and nobody showed up. Went back to work and everyone was asking me how my lunch was. I think they set me up.

I grew up in Waldorf but worked in Leonardtown from '90-'93, when I moved to Baltimore and other points north. I moved to Mechanicsville last year. One day a week or so after moving, I drove south down 235 to see what was there. I only drove as far as Wildewood b/c in the past there wasn't anything past there until you got to Lex Park. I figured if I wanted to go that far, I could just as easily go to Waldorf.

Well, my husband saw an ad for Lowes in California one day shortly after that, so we went south to find it and I was amazed. Lowes, Target, Pier One, Walmart, KMart, Giant, you name it. All of it since '93.

Then one day we had to go to Leonardtown. We drove down 5 and where there used to be only a small shopping center with a Food Lion and a McDonald's, there are now two good sized strip malls and more construction to boot.
