If you have a credit card, you can buy online at Newegg or Tiger-Direct. I buy from them all the time and haven't had any problems at all. Tiger-Direct has open box specials, which are amazing really because it's almost 25% off the retail price. If your shopping local though, Best Buy right now is probably your best bet. Check out Seagate or Maxtors.

External Hard Drive, External Hard Disk Drive, Computer External Hard Drive, Portable External Hard Driveat TigerDirect.com

That's the price range between $50 and $99 for Tiger-Direct and they all should be fine since your a casual PC user. They hook right up to a free USB port.

Newegg.com - $25 - $50, External Hard Drives, Hard Drives

That's the price range between $25 and $50 for Newegg and those (despite the size) should be perfect for just casual backup and file storage.

$50 - $99.99 : External - BestBuy

And, there's Best Buy between $50 and $99.99. If you need something quick, I'd just run up to Best Buy and snatch one up. Newegg and Tiger-Direct both deliver pretty quickly though.

That's too easy, no wonder I didn't get it. I guess Harley Davidson has the copyright on HD so the others use HDD right???
I still need to know if an external HDD is better than a memory stick. If not, I'll just keep using the memory stick.
The memory stick's best - more reliable storage. They usually come with a lifetime warranty.

External hard drive is if you have tons of videos you're storing.

Storing all your data on one external hard drive is the best way to have a catastrophic data loss. I have had an external give up the ghost, but because I had files copied in another location, there was no great loss. Redundancy is the key.

you are partially correct. HDD is used because in the olden times it was Hard Disk Drive, and also because of Harley Davidson.

Good luck to you, it sounds like your data is fine.

Thanks! I really think the data is ok too but I just dread the days of work it's going to take to get it all back into the computer. I have an entire website to reenter into it and last time it didn't go back in very easily.

FWIW, I don't trust memory sticks with any important. They are great for temp storage of stuff, or to transfer between drives/systems. Memory sticks are far more corruptible than a hard dive, and I have seen my customers loss really important things by relying on the stick with no other backup. And because of their size, they are easily misplaced or lost. I've seen that happen many times.

I use redundant hard drives for my backups.

I have more than one flash drive.

... and a few computers I keep it all on.

But I've had good luck with flash drives.

Actually Hard Disk Drive, but it's semantics at this point. I like your Harley Davidson angle better, can I use it?
