1858 Remington Cattleman's Carbine

I am thinking of buying one in the future. I've always liked the look of them. It's legal for deer. What do you think of using it for hunting? Anybody have one?

Make sure you can load it with minimum of 40 grains (volume equivalent) of BP, pyrodex, etc.; MD requires that minimum charge for deer hunting with a BP handgun and it just might not fit. Of course, I'm not sure how they'd go about checking it in the field (or if they'd go to that much trouble). And with the buttstock they might consider it a BP rifle anyway. Unsure.

How about a Ruger Old Army instead? Much better sights and stronger. I've never hunted with mine, though.
