Harley & Deuce are gorgeous, friendly, happy young (3 & 4) yellow labs who need a home together SOON. The new baby has developed severe allergies to them..........and their owners are devastated. Both are neutered, have their shots, are house trained and get along with kids, cats, dogs. Harley takes anti-seizure meds ($10 per month) with no problems. They are playful and easygoing. Currently they are being boarded in Montgomery County- but the owners can't afford that for long. We want them to be adopted together.

Shouldn't a complaint be filed that the owners did not plan for their new baby to have allergies

You don't sound crass, you're saying what needs to be said. Everyone comes up with a reason they can't keep their dogs and it's usually a reason that will make them look good. How do they know the baby is allergic to the dogs and not just the dogs' shampoo or something else? Did the baby say, "Hey guys these dogs are making me break out in a rash?" All babies break out in rashes, that's what babies do. They should just, at least, tell the truth and say they don't want to take care of two large dogs and a baby.

Oh, wait...here it is

To the red karma giver:

2 Yellow Labs need home... 06-27-2007 12:00 PM Good job making judgement on a situation that you know nothing about.

I'm not making a judgement (sp), I'm making an observation. Do you have any idea how many people say the exact same thing as they're dragging their dogs into the shelter? The names change, not the excuses. Whatever it takes to float your boat, but be honest with yourself, that's all I'm saying and I would have said all this to you in a PM if you had signed your karma. :howdy:

When I was a volunteer at the Montgomery County Humane Society, "allergy" was the NUMBER ONE reason people gave when they turned in their pets. Didn't matter if it was a cat, dog, bird, hamster.....

The funny thing is there are some dogs and cats that have me sneezing and crying every time I get near them or they decide to love me and, to be perfectly honest, the thought of getting rid of them has never entered my mind. If I want to sleep there's Benadryl and if I need to stay awake there Claritin, simple as that!

One of the idiots that stands out in my mind was a guy that came in with a Great Pyrenees pup...he was almost a year old. We would sit down with the owners and go over the the papers they filled out to relinquish the pets. We tried to get as much information about the pets to help rehome them. This fellow filled out everything..great dog...had papers..was well trained. So, I said, "why are you getting rid of him?" His reply, "He got too big." I wanted to punch him.

Yeah, that's one you hear a lot with Mastiffs, Bulldogs, Labs, etc. Did they not look at the parents? :jameo:

MANY, MANY people buy a dog for its looks and have no clue about it's "personality."

I didn't realize how sensitive people can really be to various animals until I married a man that is truly allergic to cats, dogs, hamsters and such. I told him before that he's pretty darn lucky I didn't have any pets at the time him and I started dating and didn't realize how bad his allergies were until after he already had me hook, line and sinker or else I may have called the relationship off.

I don't discount that people can be allergic. But it is an excuse that is used frequently and without reason.

That's actually how we got Maddox. We fostered him for the Lab Rescue. He was turned in by his owners, actually just left at the vets office for them to never come back for him, because he "got to big". First of all he's a black lab, I dont know exactly what they were thinking to begin with with that one. Not only that, he was only 55-60 lbs when we got him. My other lab is close to 90 and we have fostered some bigger than that. They got the mini-me of black labs and they deserted him for being too big. IDIOTS :smack:

It is so refreshing to see that there are people out there who understand how ridiculous it is to just give up animals because they may do something that doesn't please the human! :huggy:

Can you give me some more information on Nikki. I have a neighbor who recently lost their very old dog and I think they are pondering finding another!! They live on 5 acres away from any big roads. Perfect for larger pup!!
