The second half of 2007 saw violence drop dramatically in Iraq, but the progress came at a high price: The year was the deadliest for the U.S. military since the 2003 invasion, with 899 troops killed.

and over 40,000 Americans were killed in car accidents.

You should be applauding President Bush for all the work he's done to keep our young men and women safe from the dangers of driving on our highways

Funny you equate the unnecessary, and totally preventable death of a soldier in combat to be equal to a car accident....

You cheapen our soldiers lives with such comparisons..

Good thing...

You cheapen our soldiers lives with such comparisons..

...you were too young to deal with the final drives to Berlin and Japan. Casualties really spiked in the closing months leading up to victory. Of course, those deaths were totally unnecessary as neither nation, like Iraq, ever attacked the United States.

No, he points out the meaningless inconsistence of your insistance on quoting these stupid statistics in your stupid posts.

...aware of. Unless you count those balloon things.

I guess you don't consider that Hawaii at the time was a part of the United States. If that's so, the most famous and revered Democrat President of this nation lied to the American public (again) when he said that the Imperial Japanese nation had caused there to be a state of war because of their cowardly attack at Pearl Harbor. So the greatest Democrat President lied? (that is, the greatest one before Lyndon Johnson, and Jimmy Carter, and Slick Willy)

...was no more one of the United States than our embassies, nations we have treaties with, like Kuwait, or a Marine barracks in Lebanon.

People like forestal are very, very touchy about rationals for beating up other nations, so, I just wanted to allow some historical context for him to consider.

And just like the counter tactics used against the Japanese for these attacks, the same approach should be applied to all of Forestals post, Say Nothing, eventually it will go away...:coffee:

...FDR's desire to get us into a war to save Great Britain needed American blood spilt to drum up war passions. The war over oil with the Japanese was just a bonus.

And now you cheapen the sacrifices of the WW2 soldiers by equating a war with foes that were an imminent threat to our national security to a war of choice with a foe that was completely manageable and not a threat to us.

you're old enough to know better...

This coming from someone who posts a list with soldiers among the 50 most loathsome people of 2007.

Win one for irony.

...it's a good thing you are so young because otherwise you'd have to digest the minimal threat Germany and Japan presented to us and our national security in context of the threat Iraq and Afghanistan posed.

You just stay with the kiddie version; the world was a just and perfect place until George W. Bush came along.
