PLAYOFFS - WILDCARD ROUND
Four games to determine who advances to the divisional round next week. Division winners must also pick this week for tiebreaker purposes even though there is no direct competition for them this week (sort of a "bye" - it just looks like they have a week off by letting the lower seeds duke it out). Seeds and brackets:

These 4 will advance to the divisional round to go against the winners of the competitive brackets.
1. Softballkid (division winner)
2. thurley42 (division winner)
3. puggymom (division winner)
4. retiredweaxman (division winner)

Competitive brackets - only the 4 winners of these 4 brackets will advance to the divisional round next week.
5. homedepot20 vs. 12. Bay Kat
6. donbarzini vs. 11. FireBrand
7. Merlin99 vs. 10. Wildcat97
8. OldHillcrestGuy vs. 9. Tilted

All picks must be either posted or pm'd to me by midnight Friday, Jan 6th (changes may be made up until the first kick-off, though). No changes for any games will be allowed (Sat or Sun) once the first kick-off begins on Saturday, Jan 7th (around 4:30 p.m.). If you feel like you don't want your opponent to see your picks, pm them to me. If it doesn't matter to you, you can post them...either way is okay.

Each of the four lines in the above pdf attachment shows two things:
- the line (or point spread) for that game
- the total points which the Vegas point setters determined will likely be scored in that game

1. You’ll have 8 initial choices to make this week
- a team pick for each game based upon the spread (4 total)
- whether the total points scored will be "over or under" the listed total points for each game (4 total). Any pushes will be zero points for both contenders.

2. After making your eight picks, assign your confidence level to each of them from eight (your most confident pick) down to one (your least confident pick). 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 must all be assigned. Adding them up, this equates to 36 possible points for you this week.

Example: Of all eight choices you make, if you have the most confidence that the total points scored in the Steelers/Broncos will be less than 34.5 points, you'd assign your "8" to that pick. If you're right and the total score is less than 34.5 points, you'll get 8 points to your credit. If the total score is above 34.5 points, you won't get any points for that pick.

All I need from you is your 4 team picks, your 4 overs/unders, and the 8 confidence numbers you assign to each.

The Most Important Thing For All Contenders - If you have ANY questions/confusion on how this works, feel free to ask in either a post or pm. The sooner the better will give you more time for your picks.

Good luck, all. :buddies:

Don't forget, the color commentary begins at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday right here on SoMD.com. Be there.

Does this look anything like what you're talking about?

GAME 1 TEXANS -3 BENGALS 38.5 1 Texans 6 Under
GAME 2 SAINTS -10.5 LIONS 58.5 7 Saints 5 Under
GAME 3 GIANTS -3 FALCONS 48.5 8 Falcons 4 Under
GAME 4 BRONCOS 8 STEELERS 34.5 2 Steelers 3 Under

These may or may not be my picks, but I want to see if I have the basics down first.

I think so.

You have the most confidence in the Falcons winning by giving them 8, and the least confidence in the Texans winning by giving that 1 pt. And you're 6 points sure that the Texans/Bengals game will be under 38.5 points. :yay:

Just to let everyone know, it appears this is a 'pm and not post pick' week. So, feel free to pm them to me when you are ready. Thanks.

If the season had lasted 1 more week, the way I was trending, I might not have made the playoffs.

Since I have a bye and my picks don't really count except for a tiebreak next week, here they are:

Texans -3 Cincy (4) under 38.5 (5)
Saints -10.5 Lions (3) under 58.5 (6)
Giants -3 Falcons (7) under 48.5 (2)
Broncos +8 Steelers (8) over 34.5 (1)

Four playoff participants - yay East!

Good luck to OldHillcrestGuy.

Sorry to see that you didn't make it Rael.

GAME 1 TEXANS -3 BENGALS (8) 38.5 OVER (4)

GAME 2 SAINTS -10.5 LIONS (3) 58.5 OVER (5)

GAME 3 GIANTS -3 FALCONS (7) 48.5 OVER ( 2)

GAME 4 BRONCOS 8 STEELERS (6) 34.5 UNDER (1)

For fun: Bengals win 27-17, Saints Win 41-24, Gnats win 30-21, and the Stillers win 17-3.

During these games (Texans/Bengals), Andy Dalton throws a 99 yard int for a TD, but Andre Johnson is flagged for humping a sheep on the side line and it's called back.

Breezy gets caught having a martini while throwing a 68yr TD to Colston who pulls out a lighter and smokes a joint during his TD celebration... Suh runs down field and joins him...

Eli has a moment when HE DOES NOT look like a deer in the head lights, problem is, they are showing highlights on the jumbo tron of his brother. Meanwhile, Matty Ice and Julio Jones are playing ring around the rosey with the refs... Julio breaks an ankle when they all fall down.

And Ben Rape'nburger gets arrested after a TD pass for trying to get ontop of the Broncos mascot and humping it... The only way to stop it is for Harrison to unleash yet ANOTHER illegal hit which he gets ejected for and thrown out of the NFL...

Thanks, all. It should be an interesting pool this week. I have 10 out of 12 forum playoff picks so far. So hurry up, dammit. :tap:

I'm so excited about this year's playoffs - great, record setting teams and players, new teams (Texans) or a team reborn (Lions) getting to the playoffs, I'm lovin' this.

Should we have a loser bowl for those of us that didn't make it this year?

You have done enough, and it is greatly appreciated.

But to tell you the truth, I am done until next year.

Thank you Rael for all you did this year and past.
Had a great time.

Just so you all know, Dallas will win the SB again (someday).
