Well now. Wouldn't this be the best time to "Bless the Fleets"? Boats float and canopies keep people from getting wet. Do you think Jesus would have cancelled the Blessing of the Fleet because of a bit of weather? I always thought Optimists looked past things such as this, turning a negative into a positive.
Once. It was pretty cool. Was back in the late 90's. But where are all the hardy 7th Disticters? I woulda thunk regardless of a little rain, the show would still go on. Many of the crafters/artisans I saw that were there were in 1700's period dress and making crafts using the old ways. Pretty sure a bit of rain didn't stop them from making things as such back in the day. Besides, they are calling for: High near 64. Breezy, with a northeast wind 18 to 20 mph. Not too bad for most boats.Have you attended one?? There is quite an array of activities that comprise the BotF event. The actual boat blessing is almost an afterthgought and a very tiny part of the overall event.
The wind forecast for the weekend isn't much different than what's blowing right now...18-20 wind pushes up waves that are a lot more than the average 20' boat is going to handle well. It's snotty out there. Small Craft Warning all weekend.Once. It was pretty cool. Was back in the late 90's. But where are all the hardy 7th Disticters? I wouldn't want to have a static land display up in 20 mph winds with rain. The wind forecast for the weekend isn't much different than what's blowing right now...18-20 wind pushes up waves that are a lot more than the average 20' boat is going to handle well. Most of the displays are right on the shoreline. You don't have a boat, do you?For your consideration ...
That's only the wind speed on the water. Once it's on land to goes much much slower. /s
Actually, for some reason I did not think, factor, about that factoid. : )
I'm seeing white-capped waves in St. Georges Creek right now from my office window. My 20' is on the lift and its staying there....which is a bummer because my brother and I had planned on going fishing today with an old friend that's back in town for his daughter's wedding. He's a fishing fanatic...used to compete in the big tournaments in the Bahamas and USVI some years back. Oh well...there's always another day.
IDK about anyone else, but 18-20 mph NE winds with all that open water will make for hazardous travel anywhere on the lower Potomac. I'll pass.
I was thinking tarps / canopies or umbrellas ae not going to be very useful if you have a significant breeze.

Now I see an Active Weather Alert stating gusts to 40 and waves 2 to 5 feet. No. Thank. You.I was thinking tarps / canopies or umbrellas ae not going to be very useful if you have a significant breeze.
Unfortunately they have to make this call so far in advance, because the storm track can change and like we see with winter storms, that change in the pattern can leave people looking silly
It's going to be upgraded from small craft warning to gale. Now I see an Active Weather Alert stating gusts to 40 and waves 2 to 5 feet. No. Thank. You.
Sure I do. But I boat with the mentality like Captain Dan had in Forest Gump. Nothing scares me.Most of the displays are right on the shoreline. You don't have a boat, do you?
Where's the BBQ and picnic tables? I don't see any wind.
Really fast drifting....yep...For your consideration ...

As an aside, looks like perfect weather for drift fishing.
