The circumstances under which you can successfully sue a newspaper in the US are very narrow. This kid went out in public to demonstrate, he can't control how his actions after that are reported by the press. I strongly doubt that he is going to get a penny. This is not the UK, France or Poland where you can sue someone for 'insult'.

Mmmm...they flat lied about what happened. They didn't even "misrepresent" - they totally made it up and used their lie to demonize this kid who was doing nothing wrong.

In print, that is called libel; in speech it's called slander; and it is actionable.
