2nd Birthday

That's what I said! It's for the parents -not the toddler. Parents having to outdo each other for a 2 year old's birthday. 2 year olds have fun in the moment. Literally. Cake, ice cream, a few packages with ribbon & boxes - a total party for them! Then they're off to something else.

I just feel that when you continually try to outdo what you did last year, just because you feel the need to improve on it, then what happens when they're 12 and not satisfied with anything they ever get? It really does start out when they're little.

But that's JMO, your mileage may vary! :yay:

I agree. As my son got older he received less quantity and more quality. Gifts are expensive. Now days he receives one gift for his birthday and Christmas.
My son is always appreciative and I always make sure the gift is something he wants.

Last Christmas we bought one gift for the family- Slate pool table. We love it and the best part is that it is something we can use as a family.

I'm not trying to"out do" anyone. I want to make it special. He's the only kid I have and that's why I want it to be fun and have the best experiences. It may not be something he remembers but its a fun day we as a family will remember, is that SO bad?
I don't think Bann's comment was directed at YOU but more of a "generally speaking" comment.

You hit the nail on the head!!

I made big, grandiose plans for birthdays 1 and 2. Both fell through :frown: We ended up having small family parties instead. Maybe 3 will work out.

I hired that photographer you used for your little one to come and take pictures at my sons school during his party. Might give her some extra business too??

How is he handling the new little miss? Is he good with her?

He's getting better all the time :yahoo: He pretty much ignored her for the first few months, but he's starting to get protective of her now. Anytime she makes a noise he starts saying her name. He pets her head and tickles her feet.

Which photographer? Alana? I got the boy signed up for that firetruck shoot she's doing in June. I know I'll be taking the girl to her for her one year photos, still deciding whether or not to do a cake smash. Not sure if she's going to be OCD about dirty hands like the boy or not.

Yes, Alana ! Your sons pictures were so adorable. She's also cheaper than the photographer I used for my sons first year pictures. I did the cake smash too but he didn't get all messy....just looks like he ate a smurf.

Tickles her feet, how cute is that !!!

You hit the nail on the head!!

Of course it's not directed at anyone in particular, but the subject was thrown out there, and well, I've got opinions.

Gawd knows each age & stage has it's share of fun, and my 2 kids have been and are prone to all that fun, just like any other kid. Some days, they're lucky they've made it this far. :jet:

About 2 wks ago Thing2 was in Walmart with me while I get something or other that I needed. Then he tells me his "Vann" type shoes have a split in one of the soles. I just shake my head & sigh, asking him why he doesn't tell me these things ahead of time, as I have no time to go to Shoe Dept. for "nice shoes". He says "let me go look over here" and goes over to the shoe aisle. I tell him there's no way he's going to find anything he liked in WALMART! Then he tells me "I really don't care where I get them, and I don't care if they cost $100.00 or not. I can't see wasting that kind of money on shoes when I can get some for less money & almost as nice". I was a SAHM wife of an E5 Navy guy for most of the years I was married. (I believe he made E6 a year before he retired) We lived on a very tight budget for years. Yet, my kids were very happy & had lots of very fun memories. They just didn't cost that much.

Thing2 is 17. He's finishing up his Junior year in HS. I am really proud that he feels that way, it means something I've done or said is sticking to the gray matter! Not all of it, but some of it at least! :roflmao:
