$30 to park at American Dream mall? Welcome to N.J., suckers!

o, let me get this straight.

For the better part of 20 years, the looming American Dream mall — sorry, “retail and entertainment center” — sat unfinished in the Meadowlands, leading daily passersby to wonder whether the gargantuan eyesore off Route 3 was in the process of being put up or torn down.

Now, as the waking nightmare is finally set to open some of its attractions Friday, it officially announced Monday that patrons would need pay to park in the 11,000-space lot adjacent to MetLife Stadium. Here’s the pricing breakdown:

  • 0 – 29 min: Free
  • 30 min - 3 hours: $3
  • Up to 4:59 hours/min: $4
  • Up to 6:59 hours/min: $5
  • Up to 7:59 hours/min: $6
  • 8+ hours: $24 (Maximum all day rate applies)
Wait for the gut punch: If there’s a Jets or Giants game, concert or other event going down at MetLife, event parking pricing — a whopping $30 — is in effect at American Dream’s parking lot, too.

There is nothing in NJ I would ever confuse for an 'american dream'. That area around the meadowlands is a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Meh, maybe when they tear it down in 3 years they'll find Hoffa. Who the hell goes to malls anymore anyway with ebay and Amazon prime?
(Does Lowe's or Home Depot count as a mall?) If so I guess I'm guilty as a mofo.:)

If the Waldorf Mall is anything to go on, apparently people who like to buy shoes or jewelry in person.

Jerseyites (Jerseyans? whatever) are used to paying crazy prices for stuff in their state. And they must like it or they would stop voting for the state and local people they vote for.

🤷

We had a lot of names for people from Jersey, but I can't use them here.

If they paid for tickets for a Jet/Giant game, they probably won't balk at $30 for parking. But to pay for parking to shop.... that's nutz.

I've been to places that make you pay for parking, but if you buy something the store will validate your ticket.

Compare that to what USPS and UPS delivers. Retail stores are drying up. Also consider Waldorf has gone from a country town to a total shithole in the past 50 years. Consider 3/4 of the rest of the US is safer than Waldorf and that is taking even worse shitholes thrown in.

I remember Friday Nights where the only thing to do was cruise past the Movie Theater
At one time it was nothing but mini slot casino's. It seemed like a nice place to live at that time but it was far from AACO that I knew well.

Waldorf is bad and I make no excuses for it, but Lexington Park is twin to it.
Just not as big.
Just look at where the Police and Fire Ambulances do most of their services.
The overdose Capitol; of St. Mary's.

No claim to Pax other than I was Lusbian for a couple years in the mid 80's. Really liked the setup I had, launched almost every night from the Navy rec center and backed up to Calvert Cliffs SP, TONS of deer to hunt. It was still legal to spotlight crabs at night, any given night 5 bushels to sell!
