I thought this was better than Transformers, which was an inch from being too dumb and jingoistic to tolerate. In addition to the blood and bone-crunching, I thought 300 was creative and smartly directed.

I picked up a Blu-Ray copy. The fight scenes are incredible from choreography and special effects aspects.

Picked it up at Best Buy yesterday. I've heard mixed reviews and I noticed it only received 3 stars on BestBuy.com, buuuut, some have said there's tons of yelling and killing, so why not?! :yay:
Yeah right, you picked it up to look at abs. :dork:

I agree. Seeing the Spartans slice-and-dice their way through the Persians in long, uninterrupted shots was incredible.

300 doesn't have a unique plot, but it pushes the envelope in terms of visual effects and digital cinematography.

I purchased the HD-DVD add-on for my 360 and have yet to open it, I have 4 movies waiting... I was thinking to buy either a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD Player for my setup... Liking the Blu-Ray???

HD is HD to me. I just got the PS3 for it. If a device can support 1080p, I'll probably get it.

You didn't feel the emotion between him and his wife and the love he had for his state.

No I definately got the message that he worshipped his wife and that his duty to his state went above the law if it required to protect his state and the people and I respect that they were able to accomplish that translation of emotions without much dialogue. I thought the movie was very good, I just wasn't as crazy about it as my husband was.

My husband was the same way. I appreciate the way the movie was made, but it had no dialogue, as noted earlier. It's a man's movie, yelling, killing and boobies....my husband thought it was the greatest (after Transformers) while I only thought it was good.

You're right, the sex scene and the mystical nekkid woman scene was definitely catering to the men. I haven't seen Transformers yet but I heard it was pretty good. Its amazing how many of these epic tales turn into movies and are hits.

A loose depiction of the Battle of Thermopylae, which saw a wildly outnumbered Spartan force defending their land against an enormous invading Persian army, is presented in 300, a visual extravaganza which more than lives up to its deafening pre-release hype.

From beginning to end, the moviegoer is presented ferocious, gory action overflowing with visual pageantry, including grotesque creatures transplanted from a vivid nightmare and fighting styles glorious in their bone-crunching power. Not to be outdone, the sequences set off the battlefield offer a potent blend of political intrigue and sexual tension.

As Leonidas, the brave Spartan ruler whose men would follow him anywhere, Gerard Butler once again proves his worth as a movie star on the rise, delivering a commanding performance and holding his own against the spectacle. His past movies include The Phantom of the Opera and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Lena Headey matches, if not exceeds his intensity as Queen Gorgo, Leonidas' headstrong, loving wife, while Rodrigo Santoro gives the small, yet integral role of Xerxes, King of the Persians, an exotic flair.

300 is a unique experience driven by a fine cast and incredible, award-caliber technical credits. One of the coolest, most intense historical action epics ever! Hiighly recommended.
We saw this tonight and I really enjoyed it!! "Never surrender, never retreat!" We commented on how the warrior mentality of the Spartans could've easily been the ancestor to our modern day warriors, such as the Marines or Tactical Special Teams..

Anyhoo, I dug it, and that's all I have to say about that! :yay:
