No the roads aren't softer. I know my thinking is faulty, but the reason I am more likely to get fully dressed when I am on multi lane roads is I have had more close calls with people changing lanes not seeing me than any other situation so far.

If I look at the stats, they show the majority of accidents happen when close to home and at less than 30mph. A post in another forum I use had a list of interesting stats.

It's getting to be the time of year where it doesn't matter. It's cool enough I will wear full leather or Mesh/text with liner, and a full face just for the warmth.

I was just screwin with ya..

Don't want to see anyone hurt on here, but we are all adults.. Dress the way you like, however you feel comfortable.

:yay:

I rode a couple of times this year in shirt sleeves.. short trip, less than 5 miles.. not what I normally would do.

you're telling me that all that extra clothing is cooler (feeling not looking) than a tank top, unless because it might keep the sun's rays off your skin?
there is NO way to make anything we do 100% safe, its just increasing your chances of walking away.. or being carried away.

yes, my gear is mesh gear with crucial impact points being armored. When on a long trip (like not to work) it's worn as an outer garment.. The pants are worn as pants, not as over pants over jeans or shorts.. and the jacket is worn alone or with a t-shirt underneath.

Most other riders I know that wear gear, usually have a change of clothes with them to wear when they get to their destination.

Also there are three major types of riding gear..

unvented (like riding leathers and chaps, and fall/winter gear)

vented.. solid like the unvented but with zippered vents to increase airflow,

and

mesh.. which is some type of abrasion resistant fabric (or leather) that is about 80 percent mesh.. the crucial or most likely abrasion points are solid abrasion resistant fabric or leather. I have armor on my knees and hips, my elbows, shoulders, and my spine when I am wearing both the pants and jacket, but the torso, arms, thighs and lower legs are all mesh.

It's all personal choice.. Just like that Abate'rs want helmet wearing to be a choice so is riding gear.. Assess the risk, weigh the risk, and ride how you feel comfortable.
