NEW CARROLLTON, Md. --- 31 year old Nigerian mother leaves her 5 children (ages 6 months to 6 years) alone in a home which was covered with feces & urine. Nothing in the fridge but rotten food.

Eden is from Nigeria and was concerned about her immigration status when she was arrested. According to Rice, she did not ask about the children's well-being.

When she arrived at the house, authorities said, she told them, "If she had known that she was going to be arrested, she would not have returned to the apartment and would have gone someplace to commit suicide instead."

Yes, the conditions under which this woman and her five children were living are deplorable. But I find it much more appalling that no one has said anything about providing the proper services for this family. There is no possible way that prison is a solution. Afterall, this woman was working

After watching the story on the news the other night and seeing her and the conditions of the house, I sincerely doubt she knows who the father(s) is/are.

Exactly. Doing nothing about such a dire situation and endangering those children is inexcusable.
