I have heard of hay and sack, but never heard rack used that way. Is that a midwest term or something?

Definition of rack:
A framework, typically with rails, bars, hooks, or pegs, for holding or storing things.
Any Sailor of Marine approaches his/her sleeping accommodations onboard a
naval vessel realizes the "thing" referred to in the above definition is his/her person, courtesy of Uncle Sam.They fold up and are stacked one upon another, and tiered down the bulkhead.
You can't even turn over without your shoulder hitting the above rack.
Attached picture is what one looks like. Usually they are stacked 3 or 4 high.
