I'd really like them to have to explain what part of the constitution all of their laws come from. Just add a final line that says which clause gives them the authority to pass some of this.

We have plenty of laws that some politician pulled out of their ass, because it made some sniveling sissy feel safer. If we didn't have those laws, we'd still be the wild, wild west.
Actually the states would pass their own laws on it
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

What constitutes cruelty to an animal?
Which animals are we talking about?...pets?...livestock?...deer, bear, wild boar?
Would KILLING an animal be considered cruel?

See where this will be heading, slowly...over the next few years?

Leg traps will probably end up in the cross hairs of the people that want to take issue with other people's hobbies or livelihoods.

The claim of authority seems to be due to "affecting interstate or foreign commerce or within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States." Apparently people are making videos of the "crushing" too. Click for the bill.

Ah yes, the Commerce Clause. Likely the most over-abused clause in the Constitution.
