A Time To Kill.....Ants

Ants have invaded my kitchen counter for the first time since I've lived here. Looks like they are coming in the range hood vent and heading to the sink for water. Any one had success with any sort of ant traps or anything like that?

Yeah but then I have to get a gorilla to get rid of the aardvark, etc.

Ant traps work just fine and the spray do too. I had a problem in the addition at the old house for some reason, they were everywhere. We did a combination of spray and traps and it worked, just took several sprays.

Have used RAID ant traps, and were very effective. Couldn't even tell you where the buggers were coming from since the kitchen is second story. Might depend on type of ant, or number of ants?

I get the really small ants. Last year I tried some stuff called Terro that I got at Lowes, but I've seen it other places. It cost a buck or two and seems to work fairly well. The ants are extremely attracted to it and then they take it back to their home and distribute the poison. The ants are back this year, but in much smaller numbers. I just put some more of the Terro out today.

Thank you for the replies, guys. These are the little dark colored ants and my kitchen is on the 2nd floor, too. I hate to kill an ant colony but they gotta go.

Ant expert at your service!

I've tried every commercial ant killer on the market with no success - the little bastages just stuck their tongues out at me as they munched out on what was supposed to kill them. And I have cats so I don't want anything that they can get into.

So I got some small baby food jars, poked a few holes in the tops and filled them with cotton balls. Then I saturated the cotton with a mixture of 1 cup of warm water, 1/3 cup of sugar and 2 tsp of boric acid. The mix proportion is important because the idea is they come in and get little bits of the soaked cotton and take it back to their nest - bingo! Weapon of mass destruction. If the solution has too much boric acid, it kills them on the spot, which you don't want.

Set the jars around where the ants hang out. In a couple of days, they'll be a memory. You can get powedered boric acid at any hardware store in the bug killer section. The stuff I get is in a red bottle and it's called "Maxx" something - it doesn't say "boric acid" on thepackage but read the ingredients and that's what it is.

Grocery store. Get the little ones filled with fruit. The bananas and applesauce are pretty tasty :yay:

Or find someone with a baby and cob some off of them.

I hit her for ya!

I noticed over the weekend that my backyard is COVERED in ant colonies. Used to use diazanon. Now that it's been banned, any recommendations on what to use? A spray would be ideal.
