you need to get your xbox modded. then it would only cost you about 1.50 per game if you burn them yourself.

My office mate already got his hands on Fable via burnt copy.

Im heading out this weekend to get one, any idea if Microsoft has patched the drive to make it unmod-able?

You'll be locked out of XBox Live if you mod your Box.

Unless something's changed recently, that is.

well, considering the 360 has (at least...maybe a newer one even) 3 different DVD drives they used, it might be a little difficult to make a "default" driver patch

Its ok if you don't play online though  :yay:

Are you still able to get patches and downloadable content? I was under the impression you got completely frozen out when they detect the mod.

Xbox 360 Mods Banned From Xbox Live - SlipperyBrick.com

I'm talking about if you don't even hook your box up to the internet then its no biggie
If you DO play on XBL though, I know you're taking a chance. Pretty sure you're right that they completely block you out if they detect a mod, but I find it hard to believe you can't at least get patches (or downloadable content even, because that is getting them money so why would they ban you from that?)
I'm not sure though because I haven't had a connection/XBL since I moved out. I'm just using my landlord's wireless for internet (with his permission ).

Let me clear up a few things about hardware modding of the 360.

Most modding is done by a dvd firmware flash
If done correctly it is undetectable by MS and you can play on live you can even play burned games on live

MS has changed the dvd drive on all 360's made after April 2008 to a read only flash.
the new flash can not have the firmware updated. This dvd drive currently can;t be modded

If you have the new 360 you can install the dvd drive from an older 360 or buy one online for 30 bucks.
Then you simply install the hex key from your original drive to clone the new dvd player and you can update to the modded firmware.

Because theft rocks!!!!!!

Anyway, I've got both LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, Fall Of Man, reserved. Still tons of other games I want to try, like Bioshock, and I'm intrigued by the NFS, game, they havent had one that I've liked ffor a while, since Hot Pursuit, really.

I dont need wings and body kits, I just wanna drive like a demon:)

And before anyone gives me hell, no, I dont download music unless its paid for, and I dont get copies of other stuff. $200 for the nav update disc for my car is ridiculous, and I coud get burnt copies for almost nothing, or make them myself, but I wont.

Oh...well, in that case, you are correct. I just didn't want someone to run out and mod their Box, only to find out the hard way how much Microsoft disapproves of such actions.

Did you ever see the vid on YouTube about Microsoft banning Hitler from XBox Live? :roflmao:

So, you advocate theft, but dont practice it? Thats good to know. :sarcasm:

Like I said you can download games and burn them for about 1.50 each. Even if you don't own the game.

If you keep a backup of a game for less than 24 hours you are not breaking any laws. In order for you to be considered a pirate you need to be in possession of the illegally burned game for more than 24 hours.

I cannot quote the exact law but there is a law that protects consumers under the guidelines of demonstrative purposes when it comes to possession of downloaded/backup software..

Backups for material you didnt buy? Yeah, Id be needing a reference for that:lmao:

I like to call it future proofing. That way if I decide to buy a game in the future I already have a backup made.

Yarrr I be a pirate.

And Solja, quit acting like you aren't. Its ok, I won't tell.

I am a Ninja and will never admit to being a pirate. I could have my head chopped off on the next trip to the Dojo for making a statement like that.

haha. I usually test out games and software via pirating, then if I actually enjoy it, I'll go buy the copy. But more often then not, That copy never gets opened unless I need the key for registering online to download patches.
