My experience has been that:

While scientists are often liberal, engineers are often conservative. In the case of both - they tend to be smart on all subjects, even if I don't agree with them. Had one many years ago as one of our contractors - liberal, but - he could back up his beliefs with sensible argument.

Kinda surprised that an engineer, even one consumed with TDS is stupid enough to just think the immigration problem is a myth concocted by the right. You really have to be utterly ignorant of the issues to not know that yeah, we have a lot of them. Most brain-dead liberals I know acknowledge it, they just don't have a problem with it.

Yeah. He's an anomaly among the liberal engineers I do know. Most demand rigor, and that means you can have a discussion.
