Abell's Wharf

Curious about the abandoned Vulcan plant located nearby. Seems as if the plant was functioning one day, then work ceased the next day, mid stream. So many questions (and not much luck researching)-
Why is there active power still running on this site?
Boats picked up materials from the wharf and brought them where?
What was this material used for?
Was the house on the property near the wharf a private residence?
If so, who lived there?
WHY SO MANY VULTURES???? Seems as if they seek out the most creepiest places to roost. And they hiss. Jerks.

The building near the wharf was a restaurant and bar. Spent many a summer in the 60s and 70s there - swimming, crabbing, fishing, and watching the boat races. Picture is from 1958. Used to be a ski jump in the river. Many years before it was a stop for the steamships. The building was a Mexican restaurant for awhile in the 80s.

No clue about the plant nearby. My searches say it was abandoned but doesn't say when.

When I lived in Coltons Point back in the 80s, my neighbor was the manager of that Maryland Rock gravel plant. A very popular and useful clay and gravel mix, used in construction, is mined in the county (still) but no longer at that site.
Several local construction companies have their own mine pits.
