The issue is not if she wanted the baby or not, its that her so-called boyfriend put RU-486 in her drink. He obtained it illegally in India (I've read this story on a site other than the one linked) and could have caused her permanent injury or death nevermind the misscarriage.
Here is a quote from the linked site "The newspapers reported that Patel is charged with
attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child; second-degree reckless endangerment; placing foreign objects in edibles; possession of prescription drugs; stalking; burglary; possession of burglary tools and two counts of violating a restraining order."
The issue of whether or not she wanted the baby absolutely IS part of the issue. A woman who does not want her baby is certainly allowed to get an abortion. If she had not wanted the baby this probably would never be an issue. Women can freely kill their babies -- men cannot. Thus, the issue.
While designed to generate discussion, the OP makes an interesting point. A baby is spawn of two creatures -- why shouldn't they each have rights to the decision regarding its life? Its not like women these days don't know where babies come from.
