Heard that a car went through a house there early this morning. Anyone know anything?

Last night around 3AM the power went out briefly. Then today I was coming back home down that road and when turning into Cedar Cove I noticed on the right (just before the turn on Long Lane) that the Verizon landline telephone junction box looks like it got hit by a car--lid off and laying on the ground. Maybe somebody hit that box with their car?

Not sure if this is it, but on Hermanville just past Long Lane, maybe the 2nd house closer to Gate 3, I saw this damage to bushes and the front stoop, and of course the tarp over the wall - and a bunch of tire marks in the yard.

Not exactly THROUGH the house, but INTO, yes.

Didn't that happen like 3 months ago?

No idea. I just looked when I was down that way today. The tracks in the yard and the bush damage looked kinda fresh, but the tree bark damage looks rather weathered.

It happened again at the same house.
Time to put some big boulders in their yard to prevent a car from getting to the house. Couple houses in CRE had to do that because people would go around a sharp curve too fast and ended up in somebody's house.

My understanding, if you do that you could be liable is someone does run off the road and hits a boulder and hurts themselves or dies..

This house belongs to a friend of mine. Yes, someone was drunk and hit one of the trees in her yard months ago. Then this fiasco happens, "fell asleep at the wheel" was all the info that has been given.

Yep.... same reason we are required to have "breakaway" mailbox posts such as wood or aluminum. Learned this back in the day when there was a high quantity of mailbox baseball vandalism and someone welded a steel mailbox to a steel pole seated in concrete in the ground. The teen broke his arm and the owner of the mailbox was sued because the installation of that particular mailbox was for intentional harm.

Not a house, but I always feel bad for the family that live on that sharp curve on Old Rolling Road. Just about every time it rains, and I wish I was exaggerating on that, someone spins out on that curve and crashes into their fence or yard. I lived past them for 4 years and watched them rebuild various parts of their fence close to 10 times. Sometimes 2 or 3 more accidents would happen before they could even get it repaired from the 1st accident. They finally permanently removed a portion of the fence that was hit most often next to their driveway. It's a shame a property like that can't add a couple boulders. I can only imagine the uptick in traffic for using FDR has made it worse.

I dont see a problem with boulders, I mean hell a tree does a hell of a number on a car.

If a boulder in a yard can hold you liable how do these businesses have anti ran bars in front of them and the Navy put jersey walls up? They should be more worried as their pockets are deeper.

I would agree, don't see a difference. I have heard of people getting into trouble for burying cement poles in piles of leaves or anchoring their mailbox with a cement post. I guess if it's government erected or government directed it's considered a "safety" feature, if average Joe does it, it's setting a hazardous trap. Sort of like leaving armed bear traps under your windows.
Burglars hate them, ask peg leg Pete.

Hello all,

I just wanted to ask for a bit of help. Our insurance is covering most of the damage but the hidden costs are adding up :(. Deducibles, replacing a car, replacing items etc. If you could please share or donate, we would be most appreciative. Thank you

The insurance of the idiot that ran into their house should be covering this, take the idiot to small claims court.

Small claims are for amounts below $5K. They need to get a lawyer involved and don't rely on insurance companies.

I'm surprised the homeowners insurance company hasn't subrograted the claim with the auto insurance company for property damage.
The homeowner should not be paying the deductible, which can be high on homeowners policies.
If the auto insurance carrier is ignoring the claim, then definitely hire a lawyer and sue their ass.
