I have heard reports stating that the truck was not speeding and one said that the truck was going approx. 80 MPH. Has anyone heard? I personally think that all the blinking lights should be true stop lights. I don't think the blinking lights really make a difference. We have one at the corner of Rt 2 and Grover's Turn road and we still have just as many accidents.

I don't know if everyone saw it or not but Post #139 contains a Petition in memory of Aly Purvis for a light at the accident site that you can sign online. I don't know if Petitions work around here but it says they are trying for 1000 signatures before they present it.

This comment stood out to me, mostly because I believe there have been MORE traffic accidents at the intersection of Bryantown Mall AFTER a traffic light was erected.

Just think, if this were a county officials child....they would have installed a traffic light today. There needs to be a working traffic light at this intersection, how many innocent people have to die? "

Its a shame that all of these children have died recently. It is also a shame that people are arguing about "God", pictures being posted, etc. The thing that should be taken from this is that nothing in life is guaranteed. I realize that wanting to place blame is human nature, but the simple truth is bad things happen and sometimes there is no one to blame. We all must try to live our lives being good people and being good to people for we never know which moment will be our last.

SORRY but the sad reality is YES there is one to blame and that is the DRIVER. I don’t care if she is 17 or 71 the DRIVER is in control over the destinies of everyone on board. Life gives no free pass in poor judgment and the sooner we instill that concept in our children the more equipped they will be able to survive.

another thing to learn from this is dont let your daughter have a myspace page.
I thought the pics shown on the news were inapproprate to show in memory of a young girl who had passed.

i guess the family didn't offer one up so the news went searching

i just felt for the family to have those particular pics shown with in hours of the girl dying.

thats not the "daddy's little girl" that they were morning

Well, wouldn't that be the news/tv stations, etc. that chose to show the pictures? I don't think the pictures were bad...fairly consistent with what teen girls wear these days. At least the few I happened to see on Channel 4.

ok - lets say the driver was at fault. Does that change the outcome? Does anyone feel better knowing that it was her fault? Now the parents not only have to deal with her death, but also with the guilt associated with knowing it was her fault. All that I am saying is it does no good to place blame - things like this have happened and unfortunately, will continue to happen - no matter if there are traffic lights, perfect drivers with great judgement, etc.

Playing the blame game within the inner circle of family you would be correct as it would serve no purpose in the short term. But I am not and reserve the right as to point out the obvious since it’s my life as well as the life of my children that are at stake. With the exception of the occupants nobody knows exactly why this individual busted a major intersection and into the path of vehicles going 60+. But its likely the driver was very familiar with the road and knew of the intersection but due to inattention (i.e. cell phone) made a fatal error in judgment. And the same can be said about the 16 yo in Charles County who yesterday killed himself along with some friends. Tragic yes and could have been prevented if the driver was aware of the consequences of his actions and understood the huge responsibility he assumes over the lives of his occupants.

Good point. That's why they call it an accident, after all. No one intends for something like this to happen.

The news video I saw used only one pix which I would imagine would upset a parent on a good day let alone what they are going through now.

You are so right, this is not the time to place blame. Years ago when my older sister was in a terrible accident, teens in one car, family in another, 3 deaths...ect..you would not believe the phone calls to our home, people saying things like,,,How does it feel to know your daughter/sister was responsible for the death of said ppl.... now these were adult calls, not kids!!! My sister wasn't even the driver, she was a passenger in the back seat.
