The ONLY place I will pass on the shoulder at anything close to speed is on the hill in front of Dysons. Otherwise I haven't passed at speed since the young girl was killed on Rt 5 in Callaway years back. Waiting on traffic to turn left, somebody attempted to pass on the shoulder, clipped her, and pushed her into oncoming traffic. She was killed in the head-on collision.

And the roads of course. For instance, the left turn from 5 south onto Willows. I only pass there about 40% of the time, and never at speed. That house has dogs that are not always tied, the shoulder is narrow, and the SHAs half assed attempt to make it wider is NOT a place I trust a tire.

IIRC, that wasnt just "at speed", that guy was flying like a bat out of hell, had been called in as reckless a few times right before that even happened. I don't see why that would stop you. That situation wasnt caused by lack of visibility or a poor shoulder. That was negligent driving.

That is all relative though, I know someone who tried to explain getting a speeding ticket on GMR at 72 mph as keeping pace with traffic.

I don't know that I consider reckless idiots to be within the realm of the relative. No sane person thinks 72 is reasonable on Great Mills road at any time. And I think if you took 50 people and asked them what they thought a reasonable speed to pass somebody on the right was your answers would range from pretty slow on up to maybe the speed limit a little above nobody's thinking 10 or more miles above the speed limit is a reasonable speed to pass on the right. I'll go find the article but I'm pretty sure. Like I said, he had already been pegged as operating recklessly passing people over the double yellow and doing other crazy s*** before this crash.

Going to have to disagree with this.

I actually met someone who told me that they should be able to drive at night with no lights and it would be the other cars problem if they couldn't see them. I'd say at least 10% of the population are complete idiots/batshit crazy.

He use to be a driving instructor too btw.

Sure, and I worked with a guy once. Former military, we worked on helos together. Now he was avionics, I a knuckle dragging ordnanceman, but he was the one who swore up and down that a guy in prison had cured AIDS while in prison, but The Man was keeping it suppressed since it was killing down low black guys. This was in the late 90s.

My point being that most people are normal. That's how it becomes the norm. I didnt think I needed to repat nobody sane.. :) But that's what I meant

Only approximately 63% of people need to believe something for it to be considered normal. From our local drivers id say 1 in 3 do fall outside "normal and reasonable".

On my way to Leonardtown, just south of Winters, minivan down in the ditch, stopped by a tree. Looked like everyone ok.

Passing Hermenville Rd on 5 one morning, still dark, saw a deer carcus on shoulder. Moments later had flashing white lights in mirror. Looked and saw someone passed a turning car and had hit the deer at full speed, bouncing down the street.

On Friday two vehicles North bound on 235 just North of St. James Store were all over the road. No idea if they were coming from the same place. The following day another vehicle started to come head on in to me in my lane.

And the police are still trying to figure out if they want to charge the guy that went completely off the road and hit and killed Mike Lacey. DWI? DUI? Or............"Distracted Driving?" I'm going with the Distracted Driving.

Had a close one today. Right past the 2/4 split at Pushaw Station Road heading north. SUV turning right, vehicle ahead of me clears, SUV coming out, decides at the last second to dart out. Oncoming about 1/10th of a mile, emergency swerve left, then right, then correct to avoid the deputies Explorer parked in the right shoulder. Kept going since there wasnt a crash. Saw the deputy light them up and spin back to the dumbass..... Wish my dashcam was front and rear like my bikes was.
