Right about that time, wife and I were in the very back of the Target parking lot and heard a sport bike heading north at a high rate..... might be related.

As of 20 minutes ago, the body was still on the ground under a tarp. Road is still closed.

From what I read, they had to remove him from the vehicle. That indicates some substantial speed.

Zack told me he impacted the rear door. Probably where the child was.

That was my thought. Generally speaking when a car t-bones a bike there's not much damage to the car and no injuries to the passengers. When a bike t-bones a car, it takes serious velocity to injure the folks in the car.

Driver can do the normal visual checks before pulling out, but those checks assume things travelling at somewhat normal speeds. Once you get a large amount above that, the average person simply not looking far enough down the road, and no reason they should.

One thing that came to me, I was reading some texts at the time, is that we're still dealing with mostly rural roads in many cases in a mostly rural area.

Car accidents on rural roads in rural areas tend to the spectacular.

235 isn't exactly rural.
I wasn't necessarily thinking of 235 but some of the other roads where there are accidents. Plum Point in Calvert comes to mind. Even RTE 2 below Central Avenue, while somewhat upgraded, is still rural with a real pull to go like a bat out of Hell on it with multiple driveways, side roads and fields full of deer. RTE 260 in Calvert is nice and straight but has the same profile as 2.
