ACLU Announces “Close Guantánamo” Campaign

"NEW YORK – To coincide with the six-year anniversary of the arrival of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, the American Civil Liberties Union today announced its Close Guantánamo campaign. The ACLU is hosting more than 20 events across the country this week from Washington, DC to Boise, Idaho. In addition, the ACLU is calling on Americans to wear orange this Friday as an expression of opposition to indefinite detention at the U.S.-run prison and torture. Orange, the color of the jumpsuits worn by the first Gitmo detainees in photographs released by the Department of Defense in 2002, was chosen to represent torture tactics and prisoner abuse."

The ACLU is a joke.

Gitmo detainies are not american, so by definition they should not have civil liberties.

What part of AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union doesn't the ACLU understand? I would love to know why they are now championing foreign detainees and terrorists.

What color should we wear if we support locking terrorists away and beating the crap out of them everyday?

Okay, so close Gitmo and then what? Let the terrorists go? Bring them onto US soil where judges who think they are lawmakers can hear their cases?

Close Gitmo sounds so easy, but it ignores the complexity of the problem.

I guess we could take one of our old ships, put some food on it, and anchor it in the middle of the ocean. Wouldn't even need to guard them.

Anything but orange? I vow not to wear anything orange. It's going to be a sacrifice since I don't own anything orange anyway.

So close a prison because the inmates don't like their treatment.

Which prison shall we close next for the same reason? All of them?
