Active shooter at the Columbia Mall in Maryland!

It wasn't that long ago I saw the story of Sylvia Seegrist on I.D., she killed 3 people and wounded 7 others in 1985 in PA mall... she walked from store to store just firing at people, some she missed, some she hit...An unarmed employee thought she was effing around, grabbed the weapon out of her hand and once he had it, he saw that this was real... they cuffed her and the tax payers are going to support her for the rest of her life.

If just one person was armed... just 1... perhaps she wouldn't have killed a little 2 year old. :ohwell:

And she did it all with a .22LR. One of the guys that disarmed her became a state trooper and reached rank of captain, his troop were first in on the Amish School shooting. Had my six degrees with Seegrist when I was on the ambulance crew that pick up a counselor at a mental half way house that was attacked a stabbed by Seegrist. This was one year before she shot up the mall. Why was the crazy out free?

P.S. The 2 year old was killed prior to Seegrist entering the mall and was her first victum. She was shot at an outside ATM that her mother was using.

Unfortunately a couple of shot must be fired so that a permit carrier can react. A good guys with a gun may not have saved the two today but they could ensure that the shooter never left that skate store.

..and then you have this little tidbit of a story...

"50 guns were stolen from the home. The guns include assault rifles, handguns, and shotguns.

At this time, 29 of the 50 guns have been recovered, leaving 21 guns unaccounted for. Of the 21, two are AK-47s and one is an AR-15, the others are handguns."

Gun laws are meaning less and less....

Sorry these 2 young kids are dead, but this is not the end..the politicos will huff and puff, promise this and that, make MORE laws to muck up our lives and nothing will happen, except more will be shot and killed.

Thanks for the follow-up on the career of one of the men who disarmed her. That's great to know. I didn't realize the 2 year old was the 1st victim, just remembered he was amongst the numerous victims in that documentary. I was amazed to learn she had been hospitalized 12 times in the 10 years prior to that shooting for mental illness.... but had one person been armed, the victim count would have been far less.

I've been drumming my fingers here waiting on the name of the shooter to be released because I'm thinking... he has either been in the criminal system and/or the mental health system before.... Maryland being so liberal with 4th, 5th and 6th chances might show in all of this. Part of me hopes that is the case and that it falls back on the governor.

Okay, I was nosey and snooped FB's on both (I think Marie did too with her prior posting so I know I'm not the only one who peaked). You know they were not even FB friends? I think if you are dating somebody, you'd at least be FB friends with them, right?

But then again, it appears she was the manager and he was an employee so they might not have wanted to attract attention.

I hope you are wrong. I don't want the gun nutties to have something to use as an example. :ohwell:

Or the male worker was just in the wrong spot. Didn't something similiar occur at DJ's One Stop, a domestic that also got a bystander a few years back?

Could it be disgruntal employee?

I did early on, and i too noted that they weren't FB friends. I also thought aout what you mentioned about them not wanting to attract attention, but it could also be that he isn't on FB at all unless it was pulled. I also found the father of her kid. Poor guy.

My immediate thought when I heard about this, before looking at FB, was domestic or disgruntled employee.

I wonder who was shot in the foot?

He is on FB but I won't post his page. It was posted in a comment under the article by a few who knew him so I clicked it..... otherwise I wouldn't have found him. It shows where he works and it had a comment in August 2013 that he was celebrating 2 years of sobriety by telling his story at a NA meeting.

The other victim? I didn't see him but I didn't look hard

Ironically, her former boyfriend (toddler's dad) was also celebrating his own sobriety but it's only been months.

Its too bad the Maryland State Police don't issue handgun permits unless a person has 'good and sufficient reason.' If citizens had been armed they would have stopped this from happening and the loss of life/casualties sustained would have been a whole lot less than what happened.

Now that there is tons of gun laws in Maryland, the most restrictive in the nation, will the politicians finally admit that gun laws do not prevent incidents like this from happening? Laws do not prevent criminals from carrying out criminal violent acts of violence against a disarmed population. I wish that a citizen who was concealed carrying with a permit would have been able to put an end to this.

Maybe someone in Annapolis will wake up and get some common sense when it comes to what needs to happen in Maryland in reference to gun laws. Banning AK47s and AR15's isn't going to stop incidents like this from happening. The Navy yard shooter and this idiot were both armed with shotguns. In the navy yard incident, the shooter took guns from the security guard. FBI statistics show that 'assault rifles' arent the problem in America. Yet time after time the liberals love to demonize a specific gun type in an attempt to erode 2nd amendment rights.

What all of these incidents have in common is they all occur in gun free zones. They occur in states with the most restrictive gun laws. It makes it easier for someone whos committing violent acts to get away with it, because they only have to worry about police, not an armed citizen stopping them. Im sure Maryland will make more laws. But it wont do anything to stop bad things from happening. It will continue to leave the voters vulnerable, relying on 911 and hoping police are able to stop the threat. Or maybe the voters will smarten up and vote for politicians who will change the laws, so they can legally carry handguns and stop criminals dead in their tracks.

While I support police and I am pro law enforcement, the reality is police are really bad shots. I hope that they have the courage to go and deal with the bad guys. Images of Littleton always are stuck in my head where police hid behind fire trucks while the killing continued. Can you rely on your local police? Do they have machine guns and rifles, firepower superiority to deal with a 'heavily armed shooter?' Perhaps you should ask these questions since its an election year in Maryland, and its likely more restrictive gun laws that don't work will be created in the wake of this tragedy. Sadly, when I see alot of cops in todays world, there are quite a few who are overweight and out of shape. Most don't appear like the types to go in and get the badguys, they run around wearing hats and ties, issuing traffic citations and giving speeches on driving habits to motorists on the side of the road. Youtube and cell cameras neutered their departments long ago, and most of the ones hired now haven't even been in a fist fight or yelled at prior to their academy. I don't have alot of faith in todays law enforcement, they don't have that 'tough john wayne image' that was once held back in the day. The question becomes will kindler gentler law enforcement be able to handle todays more violent sadistic criminals? After all, in Maryland its all you can rely upon until the laws change.

There are reports that it was an ex boyfriend

Yes, that is what we have heard, too. My husband's cousin has a Zagg kiosk there, so we were scared this morning. But, all his employees were ok. Banning gun rights will take care of this problem. :sarcasm:

Strange, isn't it? I wonder if he planned on shooting others. It sounds like he targeted that store though

Creeper customer? Someone from NA?
