has anyone adopted from the SMAWL adoption days at PetCo? How does it work exactly, I assume you don't take the pet home that day right?

I've only ever adopted from a shelter. the first kitty I had to wait a couple of days to pick her up becauseshe still needed to be spayed, the second they let us take that day.

I got Rufus from there. I went twice to get the dog I really wanted but her foster never brought her. The second time Rufus was there and he was jive cute and I said what the hay...I'm not coming back again and he needs a home so let's do this.

On the home visit Rufus stayed furever. :flowers:

still can't get over the fact that they require a home visit. what exactly do they look at/for when they visit?

It depends on the Humane Society working in collaboration with Petco. From my recent experience, most humane societies require the submittion of an application, followed by a telephone interview, and then a house visit prior to adopting the dog/cat. But it may vary. The best thing to do is to research the society that hosts your animal of interest. Good luck!!! :yay:

I have two darling females that need a home.

already spayed?

not to sound too cheap but the $125 to SMAWL is a lot less than paying to have them fixed ourselves.

You can get them spayed through Well Pet. Mine are old enough yet. They were orphans, I've handraised them.

It was my first time adopting a pet. Initially, I submitted the application and I had to list references. They emailed my references, one was a former boss. Then they told me that I could meet the dog at Petco on their adoption day and that all of the fosters would be bringing the dogs. Neither of the two times was the dog there.

The dog I wantted was white and named Lexi which I believe was Lhaso Apso and 4-8y/o can't remember but I still have the print out ad at home. Since my oldest didnt live with me they warned that she was VERY overprotective of her family and that she would have to be introduced to guests properly and that this could cause her to take sides btwn my son that lives with me and the one that didn't if they ever play fought or wrestled.

Rufus was there and I had previously researched that there were A LOT of beagles in the shelters. He was available for adoption and contrary to all of the things people warned me of with beagles he is the pure opposite EXCEPT he is very sneaky and "wild" like a savage beast when rummaging. Otherwise no regrets.

The home visit was the following week I want to say because the adoption was a Saturday and the visit a Friday. The SMAWL rep and Foster mom came over with Rufus to meet me again and the kids, saw the house, went over some paperwork, I signed, paid and they said if I was ready to start caring for him that he could stay. They were both sweeties. The SMAWL rep was very supportive and helpful. The foster mom has a very good heart. She even made Rufus a sweater. It was December so brrrrrrr cold.

That's all I remember, I had to take him to the vet within a few days. He had his stitches from being neutered and that was pretty much it. Like having a baby. They don't know your qualifications but they assume since you signed for it that you were capable. So far so good its been 1.5yrs.

That donation is tax deductible and it goes towards the care of other rescued animals. :flowers:

We have two beautiful full grown cats, 5 and 6, male and female, spayed and neutered who would love to have a forever inside home. :howdy: We foster dogs for The LuckyOnes but ended up with these beauties and since they were raised inside we're afraid to have them go outside on the farm. They're FREE! One white with red and one white with grey. :flowers: They should go together. :huggy: Just a thought.

We've set them up with their own apartment on the farm, i.e. sofa, TV, etc. but they so do love attention. :flowers: PM me if you would like to see pictures.

FYI:
When you adopt a pet from SMAWL, HSCC, PAWS, CAWL, etc you are getting a pet that is FULLY vetted, wormed, vaccinated, altered, tested for 2 deadly diseases and microchipped...all at a discounted fee.
The fee you pay is a great deal less tahn you would pay if you did all this at normal fees.

You get a pet, that if for some reason, you can not keep, the agency will take back,...no questions asked

The fee you pay goes back into the adoption program so that another cat can be fully vetted and cared for and fed until it gets adopted.

It is NOT a profit making process.
