still can't get over the fact that they require a home visit. what exactly do they look at/for when they visit?
It was my first time adopting a pet. Initially, I submitted the application and I had to list references. They emailed my references, one was a former boss. Then they told me that I could meet the dog at Petco on their adoption day and that all of the fosters would be bringing the dogs. Neither of the two times was the dog there.
The dog I wantted was white and named Lexi which I believe was Lhaso Apso and 4-8y/o can't remember but I still have the print out ad at home. Since my oldest didnt live with me they warned that she was VERY overprotective of her family and that she would have to be introduced to guests properly and that this could cause her to take sides btwn my son that lives with me and the one that didn't if they ever play fought or wrestled.
Rufus was there and I had previously researched that there were A LOT of beagles in the shelters. He was available for adoption and contrary to all of the things people warned me of with beagles he is the pure opposite EXCEPT he is very sneaky and "wild" like a savage beast when rummaging. Otherwise no regrets.
The home visit was the following week I want to say because the adoption was a Saturday and the visit a Friday. The SMAWL rep and Foster mom came over with Rufus to meet me again and the kids, saw the house, went over some paperwork, I signed, paid and they said if I was ready to start caring for him that he could stay. They were both sweeties. The SMAWL rep was very supportive and helpful. The foster mom has a very good heart. She even made Rufus a sweater. It was December so brrrrrrr cold.
That's all I remember, I had to take him to the vet within a few days. He had his stitches from being neutered and that was pretty much it. Like having a baby. They don't know your qualifications but they assume since you signed for it that you were capable. So far so good its been 1.5yrs.
