I wonder how the pet population is coming along as far as having spaded and neutered many animals. I feel sorry for the little babes because I know winter is coming and there will be so many needing to be housed. I will help spread the word. :flowers:

I can't wait until October! I adopted my Rattie from Tri-County a few months ago and am looking for another small dog! Yipee! Hopefully I'll find another to add to my family! I think it's awesome that Tri-County is doing this!

Lucky Ones just rescued two little dogs from Tri-County yesterday. One is possibly a rat terrier about 2 years old and one is a chihuahua mix about 4 years old. They're getting their medical check-ups today.

Pixie has a jacked up ear just like my Roxy does.

Lucky Ones just rescued Pixie and her mom, Tinker Bell, today! Another case of backyard breeder who sold 5 other pups but had Pixie left and decided they didn't want mom anymore either. They're going to start again with two puppies! :burning:

I thought Lucky Ones was just a place that "fixed" dogs/cats. Is it a rescue also?

These people are going to start again? :jameo:

Yes, it's a rescue organization also that was started when the President of Lucky Ones volunteered at the shelter for awhile. After caring for the dogs and cats there, she would see some being led through a door. When she asked about it she was told to never look in there. Of course she found out later that that was where they were being put down and where the incinerator was located. She started taking a few home when their time was up to help prevent it and asked for temperary homes from her friends. After a candle light vigil to bring awareness Lucky Ones, Inc was formed in 1993. The low-cost spay/neuter clinic is just one part of the organization trying to help eliminated the flow of unwanted dogs and cats. Tri-County Animal Shelter is the primary focus of Lucky Ones for rescuing. There are also many other great rescue groups that rescue from there.

And yes, she's still breeding and selling. Cash crop! All of her dogs are tied outside to dog houses for as long as they are "useful" to her.

Very cool. I wasn't aware of that with Lucky Ones. Oh my how hard it must have been seeing those animals taken in the other room! Good for her for starting a rescue organization. Does she go over to Tri-County and check out the dogs there at times or does the shelter call her when certain dogs or breeds come in?

Cash crop! I don't understand how much a litter of pups can actually make I guess. If they are chained out to a dog house I assume they must me a large breed?

I was wondering if anyone has been to the shelter recently who could give us some info on the dogs currently there that are up for adoption?

There are different doggies in there. We just adopted a wonderful boxer from there. Best thing to do is go to the website to see what they have available, just remember not all dogs and cats are listed so it is better to go and have a lookie for yourself :yay:

You're right, the website doesn't show all of the animals...and remember, there are sometimes ferrets, bunnies, pot belly pigs there too, quite a variety.
The website is www.charlescounty.org. There is a section for Animal Control and Adoption, which once clicked upon will bring up pics of some of the available cats/dogs.

Once you click on Animal Control/Adoption, then click again for Animals Avail for Adoption. There are 2 poor old fellas on there, one is an old lab w/ gray muzzle, and one is a 12 yr old female shepherd...how sad...the kennel is a stressful place for dogs...

Yeah, they don't have enough volunteers to keep up with the pictures for the website. Best thing to do is just go there!
