Right now there are a few empty cages at the shelter...when the warden comes in w/ more dogs (in 10 min, or an hour, or tomorrow, whenever), some of the dogs on the site right now will be put down...The old shepherd, the old lab w/ gray muzzle, and blue tick hound dog will be some of the first to go. Pls spread the word/Tri Cty site to your friends/family/etc, maybe someone would be interested in adopting one so there'll be a few more empty cages (for a while anyway!). The shelter said those 3 have been tested and passed, they're good w/ cats and sweet dogs...

I hate to tell you this, but that ain't a Calico.
It is a Tortoiseshell (Tortie).
We have one, beautiful cats, but very winey.

True.
Calico is not a breed of cat, but an unusual coloring occurring across many breeds, including Domestic Short-hair, Persian, and Manx. Virtually all calico cats are female; a male calico is a genetic anomaly and usually sterile. Producing calico kittens through selective breeding also is nearly impossible due to unpredictable actions of genes and chromosomes when cells multiply in a feline fetus.

Edit: And everybody thinks I'm an idiot.

My gray kitty drools when petted too! Sometimes he drools if he wants what we're having for dinner...

I wonder how the pet population is coming along as far as having spaded and neutered many animals.

The word for "fixing" a female is spay....so the past tense is spayed....not spaded.

Please do tell me.... DoWhat.... :coffee: What is the difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell? I don't think I have ever heard of the tortoiseshell color.

It has to do with the amount of white....and did you know the calico is MD's state cat? :lmao:

From http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/mdmanual/01glance/symbols/html/cat.html
A calico cat must be a tri-color, with its three colors in distinct patches, not mixed as in a tortoiseshell cat. Some breed standards specify what percentage of the body must be white; others allow tabby striping in the color patches. To be a true tri-color, a calico cat's colors must be: white; red or cream; and black, blue, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, or fawn. The variations in color from red and black are caused by a gene which dilutes, or lightens up the basic color, and produces a dilute calico cat, most commonly with a coat of white, cream, and blue.

This is a tortie...

This is a calico

Man's best friend, "Snowflake".....

I have one of those swimming cats, but one day, he was drinking out of the pool and the dog shoved his nose in his butt and he fell in. The pool was just opened and the water was freezing cold.

He pretty much hates the water now. :ohwell:
