We recently adopted a 4yo Boxer girl that is VERY CAT AGGRESSIVE.

Her temperament test stated she was food aggressive and loved cats....too bad the "loves cats" thing I think was....she likes them raw....I know bad joke...but help!

I have suppressed the food aggression and working on ob training and house breaking but am losing the battle on the cat issue.

She would rather stand outside shivering from the cold staring the cats down then to come in the house, I have to force her in.

I introduced her to the other dogs and it went okay...the intro with the cats was a different story. She immediately became obsessed with them..starring almost stalking.

The story with the cats....they are not ferals nor are they house cats,,,they "adopted" us and I can't for the life of me get them indoors. Caught them long enough to get them to PAWS for neutering and shots...and one for brushings....and of course regular feedings.

She is not motivated by food at all...she was I believe an outdoor dog, doesn't know how to play, but is learning and is learning how to interact and enjoys becoming a part of a 4 dog 2 people family but this time she is having with the cats....

I have grown up with show dogs, bred Boxers and ob trained but good grieve I am at a loss here....suggestions please I don't want to bury any critter nor have to live in fear she will get hold of one.

I have a foster dog who is obsessed with cats, nothing I have done so far has changed it, sorry.

Otter usually ties her up or takes away her Goose until she promises to behave.

Put a muzzle on her. As soon as she looks at or acknowledges the cat, tell her no and distract her. A brought home a grey right off the track that had to learn to be small animal friendly and this worked for her. It takes months, but it will work.

Basil had to wear the muzzle all the time, even had to sleep in it. The only time it came off was when she ate.

There is no distracting her....it's as if she goes into a sort of trance like state....I've never seen ANYTHING like this I will try video and post. People think this is funny and IT IS NOT in any shape or form...neighbor says get a puma. So far the only time she did get close enough to one the kitty won, but that in itself could be detrimental on this situation.

I'm not sure the muzzle thing would work she needs to be aware that this behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. I've tried putting her on her back, belly up, I've done the NO, THAT'S BAD GIRL, She is always on lead when she outside and this morning the black cat wanted to come in (I don't mind him coming in, he does his own thing he comes in gets warm and then wants right back out....it's his world I just live in it).

She is learning that I am alpha around here but this fascination with cats has me boggled.

One of my Greys has never become cat safe. Everything was tried. We were told to give up, that he had a high prey drive and would never lose that drive. Funny thing with Greys is, once they get the catch they don't know what to do with it.

Be very careful with her still, especially if she's around other dogs. Our greys were cat safe for years, until one foster dog decided to jump at one of our cats (outside). The cat ran, and our own two dogs grabbed her. One of them ended up shaking her, and the cat had to be put down. She was very old and it didn't look like she would be able to recover.

I think a muzzle would help. That way the dog will be able to satisfy her curiousity with the cats without biting them. Plus, it will give a chance for the cats to fight back and show the dog who's boss. You can get a spray bottle and spray the dog when she bothers the cats. The basket muzzles are great. They're comfortable for the dogs, and the dogs can drink through them.

I completely agree with the muzzle training. I've met Basil the greyhound, he's nearly afraid of the cats. If the cats get near him and mama's around, he's like, "It was the cat, I didn't go near him!" with the cutest innocent face. Basil is a lanky giant, but a sweetheart. He loves giving kisses too!
