Air Expo

Mike, I just say what I heard. My friend works in base PW and deals with the Blues directly. I've seen the signed photo on her wall from the Blues. I tend to believe her when she said that the Blues won't fly here because of those 2 reasons. She also is the same one who gave the presidential PMA a list of potential test sites to build on, she said they picked the worse one and knew the ramifications all the while. OBW- I WORK IN THE BUILDING!!!! I know what the heck Im talking about. :jameo:

Now leave me the ^&%$ alone
They should get the Thunderbirds, they aren't such primma donnas and aren't afraid of buildings. The Blue Angels would stop traffic on base when they practiced because the cars might "reflect light in their eyes". :jameo:

you can check and see, but i never agree with mike. However, you are obviously a tard. I work in a building that is on the opppsite side of the airfield and the blue angles have used our building as the target for their show many times. Our building is taller than the Preshelo hanger, so thats obviously not an issue. they fly around buildings all the time, and i am sure this isn't the first airfield to get a new tower.
This has to do more with political and funding issues.....
while I tend to agree, there is an area, "the box", where the high risk passes are performed. They don't want anything in that area in case there is an accident (mid air collision). It's to protect the people on the ground. I have no idea how big the box is but if there is room for normal flight ops... one would suspect there is room for the aerobatics.

:yeahthat: Add in the increased security (the '05 show security bill must have been massive) and we aren't likely to have another airshow anytime soon.

I think you'd be wrong on this one.. funding MAY be an issue, but the buildings in the box do make a HUGE difference, and buildings can't be moved. There are buildings on base that are in the "aerobatic box" or possible impact area, and they are emptied during a show. Though you may not work in one of those buildings, there are those on here that do. The height of the building has NOTHING to do with it as one of the buildings that is emptied is probably one of the lowest (height wise) buildings on the base.

Bob, yes the buildings, obstacles, terrain, etc. do affect the areas they fly, but there has been nothing that would preclude having an airshow at all. Even if the blues refused to fly here, there could still be a good airshow without them. If there was funding to pay for it.

Seem somewhat foolish, and the Navy would look stupid NOT having the Blue Angels at an Air Show at a prominent Naval Air Station.. Why not just move it to the St Mary's airport at that point??

I don't know if you noticed, but St. Mary's is a bit small, don't you think?

But seriously, the blues didn't perform at Air Expo every year before now. Their lack of participation, if it is real, is not a reason to cancel the show.

I've only been here four years, where they scheduled and had to cancel, or were they never scheduled..

And there ARE different traveling air shows.. like the birds of war.. Nostalgic Flight (or something like that).. but the air shows I've been to on PAX rely HEAVILY on the Blue ANgels for Revenue.. All their "collectibles" T-shirts.. commemorative garbage.. 90% of it based on the Blue Angels.. why would they come here without their largest revenue stream??

The Air Show would be better off going somewhere else (civil or military) where the Blue Angels CAN fly.

They've had a couple without the Angels. Scheduling conflicts I believe. I think the underlying reason is security. Just my theory though.
