Alcohol to a minor

My 11 y/o told me that his friend at school looked really sick and when asked what was wrong, his initial reply was "I can't tell you" and then said "okay, I'll tell you." Last night my older brother (high school age) poured my soda out when I wasn't looking and filled it up with beer. He tricked me into drinking 3 beers and I was throwing up all night. I asked my kiddo were his parents home when this happened and kiddo said yup because his mom knew something was wrong when he kept running into the walls and then started throwing up!

Okay, knowing the above, would you call the school and ask that they look into the situation or call child protective services and relay the story so they could check into it or merely do nothing at all.

If it were me I would inform the school about the situation and let them handle it. The schools offices would know who to call and may even inform the school of the older brother. JMHO Good luck with your choice.

I find that hard to believe.

The kid telling the story is full of crap. There's no way that anyone could mistake the taste of beer for soda, let alone 3 damn times.

Sounds like the friend at school is feeding your 11 y/o a bunch of hooey.

Exactly, I don't by any means think that this 11 y/o was tricked into drinking beer either! But obviously there is a lack of parental control/supervision. I don't know if the parents were allowing them to drink the beer or if the child decided to drink it on his own.

i was drinking beer when i was like 7, so i know an 11 yr old knows what beer is. so unless the older brother told him it was a new energy drink, i doubt that story.

How do you know if it even happened?

If the kid lied once he very well could do it again. I think the whole story is fabricated.

Or perhaps the kid in question simply was sick with a bug, and instead of just saying that, they decided to make up a story and string your kid along.

IMO, unless you, personally, witness behavior that indicates alcohol abuse or smell beer on the kids breath, you don't have any reason to contact anyone about anything.

And even if the kid's parents did give them beer, the way I understand it, that's legal - so long as an adult relative of drinking age gave it to them, and they stay in their home.

Regardless, the whole thing sounds like BS to me.

That's the point. You don't know anything about the situation at all.

Which is why you have no business stirring a pot you have nothing to do with. Tell your kid to stay away from the other kid and be done with it.

If there is a problem (which I doubt), then I will guarantee you that a teacher - who deals with the student every single day - will recognize that there's a problem, and initiate any required intervention.
