I can appreciate the Red Sawx...

...having a tough time and pray for their eternal damnation as much as the next person.

But only when I have a few minutes to spare from cursing the Yanks.

When one team has won roughly one out of every four of a given leagues championships and that league has been around for over 100 years...that's not a team;

It's a plague.

I agree. I like both the Orioles and the Nationals, although my true team is the Pirates. The Yankees are so easy to dislike, because of the arrogant way the team promotes its mythology and history. To me, they're like the guy in high school who was good-looking and wealthy and successful with girls, but stuck up and arrogant.

But what if it was your team?

Like as if the Skins won 10 superbowls?

...different!

To wit; The Redskins operate under a salary cap, however bent and tourtured, against other teams on an essentially level playing field. They may spend more than other teams when all is accounted for but it is not exponetially more such as, well, the Yanks.

Yanks 2005: $208 million
KC Royals 2005: $36 million

Yanks 1995: $46 million
Royals 2005: $27 million

10 years ago, double, today almost 6 times?

I don't blame the Yankees per se but the yhave an obligation to their sport and their league to give it credibility.

Hell, the Braves #'s are $86 mil today and a seemingly reasonable $45 ten years ago.

When the Redskins win a Superbowl, they were the best team that year.

When the Yankees DON'T win the World Series (26? 27?) it's because a few things went wrong, injuries, whatever, not that they weren't the best team on paper.

Larry, have you ever read Bob Costas' book "Fair Ball"? Bob is one of many people who has pointed out the idiocy of baseball's "luxury tax." He lays out a good alternative for real revenue sharing in MLB.

...haven't read it. If it's a good idea, I'm sure the Yankees fully support it.
