sanchezf: What are you planning to take pictures of with your new camera?

Digital SLR's are the way to go. Keep in mind it won't be handy like the point and shoot cameras, but they have great versatility due to removable lenses. And you can always add more attachments to suit your needs.

I read that the Canon Rebel XTi is a great camera. It's roughly $500 for the body.

Thanks...all luck...I wish the orig was large enough to blow up without pixelating. I just stood back and watched them in that tunnel, they were amazed, I shot that on an auto setting too, I think. I think at the time it was a 3 meg camera, maybe 4? I definately lucked out with that one!
Thank you again:)

Just looking for something with a little better picture than the average $100 Kodak...

Ok, DSLR might be an overkill for you than. I would look into handheld point and shoot. Yes, you want a camera with greater optical zoom than a digital zoom. I have never been a big fan of Kodak since technology went through the roof. Sony, Nikon and Canon are probably the ones I would stick with unless I read good reviews.

Save the Tatas!!!
I just bought the Canon S5IS and I love it. I can see that I will need to upgrade to a DSLR after I get used to this one. The biggest downfalls that I have experienced with it so far is that when you are trying to shoot in Macro mode the viewfinder display does not alow you to see the fine details of the picture to see what your pic actually looks like. The other display is hard to see in the bright sunlight as is with all cameras.

The nice thing about this camera too is that they do have some accessories for it. The have a wide angle lens, telephoto lens, and a hood that you can purchase. On top of that you can use an external flash as well if you choose to.

Here are some of the pics that were taken with the S5IS this weekend.

I have the Kodak Easy Share 10x zoom and love it:yay: I've had it for about 2 or 3 years now and never had a problem.

It looks pretty good on papeer. I mean specification wise. It doesn't look very portable though. Hmmmm...I guess I'm trying to say that this looks like a camera you plan to bring rather than a camera that's always with you in a purse.

I agree with you I can't just throw it in my purse but I have 3 of those kind already at home looking for something a little better. Crisper pictures, capture movement, etc.

See I have that exact one at home and it has been nothing but problems, was hoping if I spent a little more money I could get better pictures.

So I hit the mall this evening looking for the FZ8 and Ritz had it in stock and on the shelf. I wanted to take a look at it and get a feel for the ergonomics etc. but the it seems that the staff really don't care that you are (were) a potential customer. I don't think that I have ever had decent service in there so my checkbook and I will go elsewhere.
