AWWW...I love the squishy face.

Reminds me of when our boy was that little and cute. Now he is big and still cute.

hehe, she looks like a pug at times! shes doing so well at crate training, we're very very happy! only 2 accidents because our work schedule was cutting it close to her 3hour bladder limit! doh! shes the first dog that doesn't try to 'lead' when taking a walk and stays very comfortably on a leash right next to me!

if only this weather would warm up more so i can take longer walks!

pooor girl shivers so easily! or maybe she does that knowing we end up taking her to bed and cuddling for hours! hmmmmm

Did the breeder you got your puppy from start with the housetraining? We got bruno at 7 weeks 6 days of age and we did it all on our own and it wasn't easy we had a few accidents in the house. What worked for us was taking dog treats out with us when she went potty and we would give her praise and a treat. She is now 1yrs old and hasn't had an accident in a long long time. She either whines or barks to let us know she has to go potty.

How old is your puppy? We got bruno when she was 7 weeks 6 days old and we were told not to crate her for long periods of time til after 10 weeks of age due to the size of the dogs bladder . We keep bruno crated when we aren't going to be home and we can't take her with us (but most of the time she is with us) and we also crate her overnight as there is too much she can get into that can hurt her as she is still a very curious dog as she is only 1yr 1month old.

shes just over 7 weeks right now.. she knows to use the bathroom right away when we take her outside which is great, but it's hard to go home during working hours in time to take her out, so she pees in her crate... i know they cant hold it for more than 3 hours, so me and my fiancee have rearranged our entire lunch schedule to come take care of her, but even then, its right at the 3hour mark and shes pee'd past 2 days..

unfortunately, we dont have a place outside for her to stay while we are out, so we have to leave her in the crate. most of the time when we are home, she doesn't pee at all, just when we are gone, she cant hold it long enough :(

What breeder let you purchase a dog under 8 weeks?

ive read over them before. ive had 3 boxers when i was a teen that my parents raised, and we've never run into any of the genetic issues, at least none that hindered them in any obvious way.. all died at a pretty normal age, tho one had a bad accident out of our control

Wanna hear about my $12,000+ Boxer? Between my husband and I we pretty much paid for the repaving of the Emergency Vet in Annapolis.

I wouldn't trade either of mine for the world though.

I hope you are not trying to be hostile with that question. 8weeks is a pretty standard time, I know, but when I have to travel nearly 8 hours on the only weekend I am able to make it, they allowed me to take her home. If you want to argue that 5 more days of time with their mom is that important, go ahead because I won't even bother saying anything. My girl is healthy and checked up by the vet and also her household manners are quite excellent for young pup. What's important is that she has a loving home and people who are willing to do anything to make sure she is comfortable, happy, and spend time to train her properly. I was concerned about her being only 7 weeks old, but after researching online, many sites said anywhere between 6-10 weeks is acceptable. 8weeks is just the mid point and PREFERRED, but not necessarily a must. It does mention that pups learn some things from their mothers between 6-8, but in my case, 7 weeks was reasonably close enough.

Well, my prayers are with my pup and I hope she has no major issues. I am pretty sure any dog, pure or mutt, will have tendancies towards certain health problems, but it's nothing we aren't ready to handle

No, not hostile....just have concerns that's all.

It's a law in Maryland but I think I read you bought her out of state. I have to wonder about a breeder that would sell a pup before it was 8 weeks old.

In many states (including MD), 8 weeks is the minimum age allowed by law. In PA and VA, 7 weeks is the minimum. I'm pretty sure you didn't get the pup in MD, because you said you drove 7 hours. Unless you're driving incredibly slowly, nowhere in MD is that far away.

I bought her in VA... pretty much 2min from WV border... long long drive on curvy roads.. fun drive! not.

I googled regarding the age thing, and I saw mostly "guidelines", guess I wasn't searching specific enough. Good to know that there really is a law out there on that though. Thanks

Crate training

A little tip for crate training...

When I bring a new puppy into my home, I place a book (about 1 inch think) under the front end of the crate near the door. This elevates the crate and causes a slant toward the back of the crate. Then I put a wee wee pad at the back. So when my pup tinkles in the crate (which they are going to do) it runs to the back and my pup isn't left laying in it. The wee wee pad catches it and makes for an easy clean up.

PS I got one of my pups at 7 weeks too and she is big and strong now. Then again, I got one at 5 weeks too (he was a rescue) and he is doing great too.

Thanks for the tip :) though, my pup gets a lil anxious without a bed :( we tried having her in the crate with just her toys, and she ended up pee'ing every hour! we put her bed back in and she tends to hold it 2-3 hours, so most of the time we are able to manage back from work to take care of her before she lets loose
