That checks to see if their baby is breathing? Baby has been asleep in her swing for damn near 4 hours in the exact same odd position. She's still breathing.

Yeah, after the "normal" nap time, if my kids were still sleeping, I started checking for breathing, fevers, and anything else that may be wrong. It's a momma thing. Four hours is impressive! Did she not sleep well last night?

Yep. Always checked on them. Seldom gave me that much free time. :eyebrow: Still check on them when they're too quiet and the youngest is 10.

Niiiiice. My 3 year old is an insomniac.

I've been lucky. All 3 of mine are sleepers. Girl #1 still sleeps 12 hours per night and takes a 3 hour nap during the day. Sometimes she takes an hour nap in the afternoon as well. Boy sleeps for about 10 hours at night and takes an hour or hour and a half nap during the day.

I still check on my five year old a few times before I go to bed.

A close friend of mine's three month old son passed away a few weeks ago in his sleep. His poor mom found him when she went to check on him. :frown:

It is the responsible thing to do IMO.

Babygirl and I were babysitting last weekend (don't have a kid of my/our own...but thats a good thing for now cuz i'm only 18 lol) and even when we were...er..."occupying our time" while the baby slept, i still got up once or twice to check on the baby cuz it was so quiet (as did she). Baby was just sound asleep.

You can never be too careful IMO. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Did it a lot with my first.

Some with second.

None with third.

There are a lot of things that got watered down the more kids came along.

Like dropping a pacifier for instance:

When my oldest dropped his pacifier on the floor, we'd put it away until we could boil it for at least 30 minutes.
With the second, we'd squirt it off with some juice from the bottle
With the third, we'd pick it up, pluck off any stuck hairs and pop it back in

With the oldest, at the first sign of distress - a whimper, a frown - we'd pick up the baby.
With the second we'd pick the baby up when its wails threaten to wake the firstborn from his nap.
With the third, we taught our 3-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

With the oldest, we'd change the baby's diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.
With the second, we changed their diaper every 2 to 3 hours, if needed.
With the third, we tried to change their diaper before other ones started to complain about the smell or if we saw it sagging to their knees.

With the oldest, we'd take the baby to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.
With the second, we tool the baby to Baby Gymnastics.
With the third, we just took the baby to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

With the oldest, the first time we left the baby with a sitter, we called home 5 times.
With the second, we'd leave a number where we could be reached, for any reason.
With the third, we left explicit instructions for the sitter to call if only AND ONLY IF she sees blood or fire.

With the oldest, we'd spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
With the second we'd spend a bit of every day watching to be sure the older child wasn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
With the third, we'd spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

With the oldest, when he swallowed a coin, we rushed the child to the hospital and demanded X-rays.
With the second, we carefully watched for coin to pass.
With the third, we deducted it from his allowance.
