Madeline Mann is seen shortly after her birth in June 1989. Born at 27 weeks into her mother's pregnancy, she weighed just 9.9 ounces, less than any surviving baby in medical history.

This is now:

Madeline Mann plays the violin in this recent file photo courtesy of The New England Journal of Medicine. Next week, she enters high school as something even more extraordinary: an honors student who plays violin and likes to rollerblade.

:yay:

I know someone that had twins about a month ago...the due date was mid-October. The twins are still struggling, but they are still alive.

I wish your friend and her family the best of luck, Barbra. It isn't an easy road to be on.

Jazz,

That picture is amazing. I missed it earlier too so thank you for posting it again.

My youngest son was born at 30 weeks, he was 3.5 lbs., and to see him now, you would have never known.

When I was in the hospital, I was told, point blank, that premature boys do not do as well as premature girls.

What? A viable tissue mass at 27 weeks?..hmm.
NARAL probably wish this story would go away.
What a good "choice."
