Jane, Jane, Jane...you've been around here long enough to know that that's not how it works.

CoolJane, we bought two last year from the Amish , the place on pin cushion rd. First time we had purchased fresh turkey. They were both 20+lbs. I cooked one on the smoker, and my bride cooked one in the oven. While they were both fine, I did not see any advantage to buying them fresh. I was expecting a seriously different taste than say a butterball or other brand name turkey. Not so much. We are not planning on doing it again this year.

What about price? Any better? worse? the same?
And did you care about stuff like free-range and crap they put in their animals or any other tree-hugger-type issues?

They were more expensive. I think we paid almost $70.00 for the two turkeys. Nope, not a tree hugger, and could care less if they were free range. We tried it because folks raved about how much better they tasted.
