And another one…

Ok, I apologize..

If I'd known this was going to be the result, I'd have never booked a flight to Montana.

I find all this a bit concerning. But how many others have gone undetected and/or unreported.

that's what I'm wondering as well. I think China is testing Biden to see what they can get away with and as we have seen, China can do whatever it likes with houseplant in office. Ain't no way in hell Trump would put up with this $hiat!
And it was just mentioned on FOX that maybe it is Russia working with China.

And we have some sort of laser that can be deployed by now?

it’s gotta to be cheaper to shoot it down with that.

I'd be surprised if we have ANYTHING with the kind of power it would take to take out a device at 60,000 feet and still have the raw destructive power needed. Everything I have seen is shorter range and destroys by messing with the electronics.

I would NOT be surprised to learn that we DO have a land based gun capable of shooting high speed projectiles - kind of like a rail gun. But not on a fighter.

Maybe that’s the purpose of these incidents. A laser would be the best weapon to use against a balloon and the Chinese haven’t seen what we have for airborne lasers. Could be that they want to collect some real world data so they give us a perfect target to shoot at while they have a vantage point somewhere watching it.

And probably launched from inside the States.
That, I find unlikely. At least a couple have been known to have crossed through Canada, so unless they were launched from Alaska, they came from elsewhere. Second, I don't know what could be gained for an American to have one of these things fly over our oil production along the northern shore of Alaska.

I'm a little bothered by the fact that heretofore, we didn't know about them and now we're up to FOUR. They didn't make the news until civilians started spotting them. Suggests to me they're KNOWN and have been ignored up till now.

You know that will be the excuse to blame the other guy, but our guy shot them down.

I don't know WHAT was the hesitancy at destroying the first, and I never bought the story that a falling - object - was going to present a danger to civilians. You can almost not find a more remote state in the lower 48 than Montana. PERHAPS there were other reasons - a desire to capture it WHOLE - a fear it might be a booby trap or worse, delivering a payload of bio-weapons or a dirty bomb.

Who knows? In any event, it's clear that with the FIRST one, Washington was content to let the damned thing fly over the entire country unmolested.
