Doug just called - he's going to Iraq in March. :frown: He JUST got back from Korea so I'm kind of bent. He's looking at at least a year, possibly 18 months. *grrr* I was looking forward to him being stateside for awhile.

At least he and his fiancee are going together.

Dayum Vrai... I can't even imagine! Guess I should start trying considering my baby wants to join the Air Force.

He will be just fine Momma! He's got your defiant gene!

Oh, he'll be fine - I'm just whining. Some of those guys have been over there for a loooong time so if he and Jess go, that means some other Mom's kid gets to come home for awhile. Maybe some guy or gal with kids and a spouse they haven't seen in a year.

I'm just b*tching. Pay no attention. We had a nice month with him when he was here over Christmas.

Sorry but... Reading between those lines Mommy. It's hard, and ya know what? All of us Mom's out here understand.

You will never, ever live through anything more terrifying. Trust Vrai... He is his momma's son.

Well, just think...he and his fiance will be getting all of those free meals!

On a serious note, I'm sure both of them will be fine. They'll be in my thoughts. But, I know how you feel, as my husband may have to go in June. :frown:

:lmao: Not to mention the free clothes! And house!

Maybe your husband will meet Doug over there - wouldn't that be a small world? Seriously, I hope your husband doesn't have to go. It's different with us - Doug will be going with his gal and there's no kids left behind. But I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do, huh?

It's not that bad. I had a friend who is there for only 6 months.

How do you mean not that bad?

My sister, her husband and my uncle will be there in March also.

That stinkith to the highest degree Vrai. But at least you got an idea when he's leaving instead of just "sometime soon". I know it just killed my parents that they didn't know when I was going to be deployed (shoot I didnt either until 2 weeks before). I hear babywipes are a hot item over there due to the lack of bathing water.....so an idea for care packages:wink:

He's not particularly worried about it. He's had buddies over there for months and they say the living conditions suck but the rest of it's not so bad. He's definitely getting to see some world during his enlistment, that's for sure.

Oddly enough that has happened to him before...old classmates, friends from back home, etc. You never know!

I hope he doesn't go either, but he gets deployed at least once a year so I'm pretty used to it. The only thing that sucks is him missing important milestones in our daughter's life such as her first bday and first words. Such is military life!

Good luck to your son and his fiance!

I will hope for the best for you and your family V, I miss my kids not living with me, but they are a short drive away, I don't think I'd like my son going overseas, but I would be very proud of him if he did like yours.

Hang in there..we'll all be sending good thoughts. I'm glad he got home for awhile and you got to meet Jess. Seems like yesterday we were potty training that kid...

Just have to wonder what services everyone is in, and what their jobs are.. Father in law is in the AF Reserves (refueler) and has been deployed for Desert Storm I & II and both times lived in a former Lockheed Martin facility in Dubai, central air, swimming pool, tennis courts.. etc..
