When my son first got into organized basketball as a first grader, his coach worked hard with his own son. He pushed him hard all the time. My kid played with that other kid for a few seasons. Even at a young age, he was better than most other kids. But he was short. As opposed to a culture that promotes professional sports and music (two incredibly difficult professions to enter) which has the opposite of a snowball effect when so few are able to be successful and the ones that do make it are rarely prepared to maintain and perpetuate the wealth they attain.
Fast forward 15 years. That kid became an NCAA champ and first round NBA pick. Of course he imploded with substance abuse issues. And he came from a good family with a military background. Last I heard, he was playing basketball in China then was deported for disrespect.
