Is the only difference between Blu-ray and hd dvd the picture quality? .

As far as I know, there's no difference in quality. The difference lies in the digital formatting of the data stored on the disk. Which is why one won't play in the other.

Now that Blu-Ray (... and does anyone else find it ironic that the winner of the HD format war sounds like 'blurry') has won, Sony should buy all rights to the HD-DVD format from Toshiba, and make their players capable of reading both formats.

Save the Tatas!!!
I have a HD DVD player that I got a few months ago when they were going for next to nothing. I was hoping that they would be the one. I was banking on the fact that the porn industry was throwing thier money in the HD DVD ring. The adult film industry were the ones that drove the Beta vs VHS war years ago. I knew I was screwed when I saw that porn was shipping Blue Ray versions. Not that I watch that stuff or anything.
