My oldest son was accepted to RIT for Physics
My brother graduated from RIT for Photographic Arts, not sure exactly what his BS was in. Anyway, he's now the VP to Fuji for imagining products for the entire US and has overseas accounts too.

I would GUESS that Photographic Arts from RIT is probably a lot more science and computer based than say Photography from CSM..

Getting a Doctorate in Education from a 40 k a year college definitely isn't.. My oldest son was accepted to RIT for Physics, then he decided he wanted to go to school for Education, told him now way in hell is he going to a 30k+ a year school to be a teacher, that was INSANE..

So he went to CSM, then to SMC and now wishes he stuck to his original choice and went technical.. I'm not sure how, or why, but I think somebody close to him must of scared him off of the Physics degree.
The life of a scientist isn't for everyone. The researchers I ran into at Harvard got paid poorly, worked long hours and kept to themselves a lot.

Personally - *I* wish I'd stuck with my original choice and become a writer. Wouldn't have paid well either, but I would have enjoyed it more.
