...forgotten for 8 hours by dad.
HERNDON, Va. -- A father was charged Wednesday in the death of his 21-month-old son who, died Tuesday after he was left unattended in a vehicle for several hours, Herndon police said.
Sources told News4's Pat Collins the boy's father, Miles H. Harrison, 49, apparently forgot about the child.
Police officers and members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue were called at about 5 p.m. to an office park in the 500 block of Herndon Parkway.
An officer arrived at the scene and discovered a deceased boy in a GMC Yukon in the parking lot, police said.
The boy apparently died of heat exposure, News4's Pat Collins reported.
Sources said the boy, Chase Harrison, was in the car from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., when he was discovered by a passer-by. The boy's father works at the Project Solutions Group, a real estate consulting firm in Herndon.
When the boy's father realized what happened, he became so upset that he had to be transported from the scene for medical attention.
The boy, who was Russian-born, was adopted last March. He is the couple's only child, Collins reported.
Harrison was served with an arrest warrant Wednesday at the medical facility where he was transported. He is charged with manslaughter.
"It's a very tragic event," said Lt. Jeff Coulter of the Herndon Police Department. "The public needs to remember, we can't leave our children in a car, whether it's two minutes to run to the grocery store, or a little bit of time while you go into an office to do some work."
An autopsy is planned for this week.
