He could just stop hitting people. If you don't break the law, the odds of you getting arrested are pretty low.

When kids got in fights when you were in high school, were they arrested for assault? Ever?

I guess...

...no one is gonna read the damn link;

Purvis assaulted a male student he apparently suspected of vandalizing his auto.

In my day, that would have got your azz stomped and then the Local boys would have come buy and given you a ticket for bleeding on their streets.

Yes, but I lived on the left coast. It was a different world out there, but the rest of the country has caught up in the last 25 years.

Icky. Violence.

What you're supposed to do is go to your principal (because he's a prince and your pal :jet:) and report the incident, so he can ignore it.

Alternately, you can call the police so they can say that they're way too busy to deal with property crimes that don't involve bodily injury.

Vrai, this isn't a 14 year old who got into a fight over Pokemon. I agree that children acting like children shouldn't be arrested.

The guy in question is 19. He is an adult. He assaulted someone. Why should that be overlooked?

Where do you live? I'm going to come over and vandalize your car and see how you react.

You're right. He should have just let it go. It's crazy to think this barbarian would get so angry over a little thing like car vandalizing.

So vigilante justice is okay now? If I responded to vandalism by assaulting someone, I would know it was against the law, and I could be arrested. What's so hard to understand about that?

Or he could have handled it like an adult. Like someone who is, just for example, 18 or older.

Is fighting in the hallway an adult thing to do? It isn't where I work. Why do you excuse an adult just because he was on school property? Why is a crime not a crime on school property?

Call the cops. He knew who did it. The vandal could be facing charges instead. As well as paying restitution.

Yeah right.

Apparently you've never been a crime victim. Just because *you* know who it is doesn't mean you can prove it enough for an arrest, let alone a conviction to be made. 9 times out of 10, the cops just tell you there's nothing they can do.

So, yes, I'm all for a little vigilante justice. I think if you mess with someone's car, you should get the piss knocked out of you. Sorry.

His mother said he should walk away. Of course, what does she know? She's just his mother, not Queen Nicotina. Charlotte Observer | 02/07/2008 | Jena 6 defendant facing assault charge
Purvis' mother, Tina Jones, told the Alexandria Daily Town Talk newspaper that she wished her son could avoid such situations.

"I understand he gets frustrated," she said. "But he needed to walk away from this situation, being that he's already in a situation."

the student felt Purvis come behind him and "grab his neck with one hand and begin to choke him." Purvis then said, "Don't you ever mess with my car again" and slammed the student's head into the bench of a table
Gee, you're right. Choking someone and slamming their head into the table should not be punished. After all, kids will be kids! Even 6' 6" 19 year old "kids."
