The U.S. Interior Department said on Thursday it gave final approval for Petrobras to use the first ever deepwater floating production storage facility in the Gulf of Mexico.

Petrobras is a Brazilian Company backed by Soros money
Billionaire investor George Soros bought an $811 million stake in Petroleo Brasileiro SA in the second quarter, making the Brazilian state-controlled oil company his investment fund's largest holding.

Didn't we send 2 Billion dollars to Brazil to finance their off shore drilling, while Obama banned ours?
Isn't the oil being drilled offshore in Brazil already sold to China?
GE gets 250 illion dollars contract with Brazil
GE wins $250 million offshore drilling contract in Brazil | GE Reports

Didn't Obama just appoint the GE Chairman to a post to bring jobs to America.??

Isn't Obama going to Brazil this week?

Lets critique.:
Petrobras a company strongly financed by George Soros just got permission to operate a deepwater floating production storage facility in the Gulf, when the Gulf has practically been shut down to American drilling companies.

Petrobras got 2 Billion from Obama to drill offshore in Brazil while we cannot drill in the Gulf. The oildis already contracted to be sold in China, basically we are subsidising Chinese energy, and GE got a 250 million dollar contract with Petrobras and we hired one of their wheels to bring jobs to America.

Obama is going down to Rio and Brazil for a vacation and probably to get his cut ,while Libya and Japan are embroiled in major problems.

Can anyone else smell the stench?? Or am I totally imagining this?

The floating facility has a daily production capacity of 80,000 barrels of oil and 16 million cubic feet of gas. It can be disconnected and moved out of the path of a storm, unlike permanently moored production platforms, preventing long-term supply disruptions because of storms.

:yay:

Cool! Could use more of these.

Matt Pickard, analyst with Quest Offshore, said more of the units, known as FPSOs, could follow now that Petrobras is the first to clear the lengthy regulatory hurdle. Regulators approved Petrobras' development plan three years ago, but final approval came Thursday.

It would be even cooler if we built some and we operated them, wouldn't it?. I'm not going to hold my breath.

Soros is no dummy..he knew that Obama's "No American Energy for America" policies would create some excellent investment opportunities.....in other countries.

I agree. American oil companies need to step up. Probably costs more to build these, compared to the fixed facilities.

We (my company) are involved with other companies (including many US companies) and shipyards that are leading that technology in many places where I work. Singapore..Norway and Scotland to name just a few. Nobody will consider taking the risks here because of the complete and utter uncertainty. Goggle how many rigs packed their bags and have simply LEFT the US gulf waters.

DEEP-WATER DRILLING GOES FULL AHEAD, EVERYWHERE BUT HERE

The good news that BUMMER, sorry, I mean BOEMRE, has actually managed to approve a second permit for deep-water drilling in the U.S. Gulf - read about it here - should be seen in the context of international activity in the six months since BP's Macondo well was sealed. The offshore industry has clearly demonstrated its confidence in the future of the technology by ordering 63 new rigs - 22 drill ships, 4 semis and 37 jack-ups - a total investment of over $20 billion. Can someone name who the president is now..whose minions are defying even judge's orders and refusing to issue Gulf permits.

Obama's President now, but that's not really relevant to this report.

But speaking of Obama and Gulf permits,

Obama Issues Deepwater Drilling Permit

The Obama administration Monday granted the first permit allowing deepwater drilling since last year's BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Noble Energy was granted a so-called "permit to bypass" for a well located about 70 miles south of Venice, La.

......

Government officials granted Noble Energy approval to drill around parts of the original well because it showed that it was capable of containing an underwater blowout, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement director Michael Bromwich said in a statement.

Also, you might remember Obama was planning on opening up a larger area of the gulf to offshore drilling shortly before the unfortunate BP fiasco.

Now, it appears that if a company can show it's capable of containing an underwater blowout, they'll have a better chance of getting a permit.

Thank you proving exactly my point..and the one that Tim Colton was sarcastically discussing as well. Obama has grudgingly..and only after two court orders..slowly moved to issue a couple lousy permits. Do you know how many are languishing?.....:killingme

I guess this in not your 'area of expertise'..but Google is yr friend.

There is good news in the OP for my company though..and I'm headed back to Rio on a couple weeks for meetings on some killer new offshore support vessels to go with all the new rigs. The support vessels will be built in Brazil though...of course.

Oh, well if you work in the industry, you obviously already know more than I do about the subject. But it's good news that permits are being issued, again.

thanks for the link. :yay:

If yr bored and want an interesting read, read Colton's bio. Amazing fella.

I guess I am the only one who see's the corruption angle.

Oh Well: I am not surprised Obama is the invisible man when it comes to people spotting his corruption.

and how is this substantively different from Halliburton getting big contracts during the Bush-Cheney regime ???

side note --- i bet that Obama would be secretly happy if he was a One-Term President 'cause i have no doubt he'll be on dozens of corporate boards raking in millions of bucks

meh...look at how many offhsore leases have been granted over the years too. They are worthless until permitted to actuall stick a drill in the mud...which is why most of 'em are worthless. And three years ago they approved merely a 'plan'. They always approve plans.

The key here is that Soros knew when something 'real' was actually going to move and just ..just recently..put all those big bucks in. How did he know that?

How did Soroa know it would actually move forward when the Obama administration has shown only that it will revoke permits for operations already underway and after millions have been invested (witness West Virginia coal mining..) ..but is extremely reluctant to approve any new energy development.
