My parents came up for the holidays and brought an SLR for me it is a circa 1986 Minolta 5000 with a Sigma 35-135 zoom. The lens looks pretty nice. Now I need a new Sony Digital A900 for the lens.

 the cameras all have slightly different lens mounting systems.
A Minolta lens won't fit on a Nikon which won't ft on a Cannon which won't fit on a Sony

That sigma would be a Minolta mount lens, and the Sony takes Minolta mount lenses I believe.

Yes that is right they do accept the Minolta Lens system. I just don't know about spending 3k on a body. I could use that $$ on a trip to take some nice photos or part of a turbo kit for the hayabusa.

Minolta and Sony are interchangeable for certain models, the Maxxum and Alpha being two. That 5000 is probably not be one of them though. Even if it does fit, I doubt it has all the electronic connections the A900 has. Also I'd guess the lenses value at about $250-300. I don't think I'd want to spend $3000 on a camera for that lens.
