Anvil Shooting?

Was flipping thru the channels last night and hit Ripely's Believe it or Not on the Sci-Fi channel and they were doing a story on Anvil Shooting
They take a 100lb anvil and put a couple of pounds of black powder under it and see who can get it the highest. :yikes: Sounds like fun.

When we gonna have our first meet?? I'm betting 75 ft minimum.. And screw the math, that's a "That looks about right, light the fuze" kinda competition..

Got my boy one of those water/air rockets couple of years ago. First shot it put a dent in the roof of my car.
When they shot the anvil off on TV last night, it went 3 ft into the ground on landing. Wanna do it in your back yard?

I need a bigger back yard..

Bought my son an Estes Rocket a few years ago.. put the "recommended" size engine in it and .. yipppee.. no big deal.. and of course my thought.. "Recommended is for those people that don't know what they are doing", so I added a little more power..

..never did see that rocket again..

Used to live in VA down near Charlottesville and we enjoyed black powder. Found out the hard way that a trail of powder along the ground doesn't act like it does in the movies. No matter how long it is, you've got about a 1 second (or less) fuse.

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
This reminds me of shooting out houses.....same principle, different propellant, different flight pattern, and not to be done at home of course....:killingme

Hard lesson learned, and never forgotten..

Mix in some ground calcium, slows down the burn time..
