Any chihuahua owners?

My dog has been acting weird all day. He is 2 years old, and has never done this before. He is laying in my lap, nothing new there, but he keeps whimpering and trembling. I got a blanket, and covered him up, but now he's just under that shaking and whimpering. He didn't eat his food this morning, but has drank plenty of water, and gone potty like normal. He is UTD on all shots, and has no previous health problems. Any ideas? Does this sound familiar to any of ya'll?

You only have a couple hours or less to get him to a vet. Why are you posting here?

Chi's can get low levels of enzymes/proteins and can sometimes get lethargic because of this. Try giving him some molasses (if you have any). You want to get his blood sugar up. None of us are veterinarians, so we really wouldn't have a clue.

Rub some honey on his gums. Chi's can be hypo glycemic (low blood sugar). This should help, but I would not take a chance. Go to the vet right now. I had a chi go into convulsions. They can also suffer from hydro encephalitus (spelling is wrong) which can cause pressure on their brain. Are his pupils dilated?

If this was your child experiencing this would you post as well versus taking him/her to the doctor. A responsible pet owner would be in the car to the nearest vet at the first signs.

:yeahthat: Shoot, just today we noticed our puppy's bark was a little hoarse...took him to the vet, turns out he has a respiratory infection. Antibiotics and hopefully he'll be fine. :yay:

Are there any new and usual loud noises in the area. The farmer behind me was sightin in his gun on subday and the dog kept shaking and shaking....it took me a little while before I made the connection.
Shame on me for not jumping in the truck immediately and spending a few hundred to see what was wrong.

Thanks so much. I ask a simple question and get mostly nasty, attacking responses. (except for yours and a couple others) I gave my dog some molasses and all is well. What a horrible pet owner I am. It's really a shame I didn't spend a paycheck to figure it out.

I think you are exactly right, they started construction on new houses behind my house today, the noise didnt bother me but Im sure he was freaked out by it.

Hmmm I saw mostly helpful advice which you used. If you post on a public board do not expect all to be considerate of your feelings. If I had a serious medical question about my pet I would be calling my vet.

:yeahthat: And it isn't necessarily going to be expensive...my sick puppy visit was $47...$30 for the visit and $17 for meds. If it were something serious, and you caught it in time, it would be a lot cheaper than if you let it go. If it ended up being nothing, you'd be out around $30.
