Any reputable auto repair shops in the Mechanicsville area excluding franchises?

I'm tired of taking my vehicle to the local franchises and getting reamed. If I didn't know any better it wouldn't be as bad but considering I used to do all my own mechanical work back in the day I know better. It seems every time I take my vehicle to say Mr. Tire for what I think is going to be a reasonable repair the cost quickly skyrockets. The first time a $15 oil change went to $300 dollars in repairs. Which I didn't get done and the vehicle miraculously kept running for the past 2 years. This time a faint brake noise turned into $600 in repair estimates.

Long story short. Any local repair shops you trust to fix your vehicle quickly and not empty your bank account? I just don't have time to do my own repair work anymore so need some alternatives.

We use Guy Motors. LOVE THEM... Their quotes are always within pennies and they are not hard to get in with. The work is usually done quickly and well. And they never make me feel stupid, just because I am a girl.

Thanks for the tip. Guess I shouldn't have specified Mechanicsville only. Im willing to drive to Waldorf, Lexington Park, etc if the company is reliable, reasonable and honest.

Before I bought my new car in Waldorf I was going to Southern Tire in McKays Plaza off Mohawk Road. Bobby Staples is the owner and a very very reasonable man, and if Bobby's not there then ask for Tom. These are the best people I know. Now I go to Hyundai for my oil changes, But I still miss them!!

Jimmy Rader in Hughesville. He is the BEST. When I need a vehicle worked on, I call him up and let him know I will be dropping it off overnight and what's wrong with it. He calls to let me know what he finds and then calls again to tell me it's fixed. I don't even ask what it's gonna cost anymore, I trust him to not screw me over. He does good work, is fair and gets it done when he says he will. I highly recommend him.

Hodges and Mattingly Tire and Auto on Airport View Drive in Hollywood. :yay:

Absolutely!

Boone, the co-owner, is fantistic, as are all the guys in the shop! He work on both my vehicles, and family and freinds.

You won't be dissappointed.

Nice info here everyone. I'll make a note of them for future references.

I normally use Southern Tire and have been generally happy with them. I've taken my car in for tires, oil changes etc and they haven't given me a grocery list of things that need fixed like Mr. Tire.

Mr. Tire hooked me this last time with their "brakes forever" for $99 coupon. The coupon appeared to include everything I needed done, heck even the rotors/drums turned. So I dropped off the vehicle and told them about the noise I heard and they proceeded.... Proceeded to do as much as they could to jack the bill up as far as they could IMHO. Also when I presented the coupon the guy says "What am I going to do with that". You have package 2 and this only applies to package 1.... The coupon mentioned nothing about different packages and whatever the guy at the counter was rambling on about. I personally felt it was a bait and switch and they replaced parts that didn't need to be replaced but thats my opinion. I won't be using them again. They also keep trying to push this power steering flush off on me. A quick internet search brought this opinion up. Power steering change a scam?
